An on-farm meeting organised by the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) will focus on working with nature to improve efficiency and profitability on the farm.

The event, which will be done in partnership with Elanco and Torch Farm Vets, aims to teach attendees how to make changes to have a “healthy, sustainable farm business for the future”.

The interactive farm walk will take place at Wevian Farms, Little Pillhead, Bideford, Devon, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 10.30am until 2.30pm.

Torch Farm Vets and Elanco will discuss improving production efficiency through health, nutrition and genetics, and Torch Farm Vets will also do some myth busting around sustainable worming practices.

Entomologist and farmer Sally-Ann Spence will introduce attendees to the dung beetle and explain why they are “vitally important” insects which improve the quality and structure of soil.

She will also aim to highlight how they can reduce parasite burdens in livestock and provide a “variety of other crucial services within agricultural landscapes”.

Project officer at Farm Net Zero, Alex Bebbington, will speak about the learnings from the project, what is being achieved and what can be individually achieved by farmers.

Finally, grassland consultant at Grassmaster, Charlie Morgan, will share tips on how to get the most from pasture with a focus on healthy soils.

“This event is for anyone interested in working more with nature to improve efficiency and profitability on farm,” AHDB said.

Those interested in attending the event should contact Torch Farm Vets.
