AHDB Eat balanced TV ad

Farmers Country Showdown is back on in the mornings too. Except there are no shows so they have been showing producers at some fabulous farmers markets. Will it do any good? I do not know but it does show what can be produced in a small way and advertises real food.

Now is the time with beef and lamb prices at a high to put your hands in you pocket and drive forward an advertising campaign.

No whining, oh its making up for the lows, we need the money in our pockets.

Speculate to accumulate!

So the anti-meat brigade, with a budget of bugger all, have managed to get the message across that cows are destroying the planet, yet we, with our huge resources, cannot deliver a counter message ?

Famous person stood in a field.
"Cows eat grass. Grass removes carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the ground. Save the planet: Eat beef and lamb."
Pretty picture of daisy eating grass.

Send my fee to RABI.
But anyone with half a brain cell would then be saying "If grass stores carbon in the soil, Daisy eating the grass is harming the process... therefore having livestock is bad!"

Any member of the public who sees this advert, and wants to find out more, will have a look at the campaign's fb page.

https://www.facebook.com/WeEatBalanced

Four days now since a post went up, all there is to see is an almighty slanging match; farmers calling vegans 'knobs', vegans calling farmers 'murderers'.
Put some fresh posts up to move the vitriol down the page. Block the people using foul and abusive language.
Whoever is 'running' this campaign needs replacing first thing Monday.

Surely better to have a simple campaign, punching home a simple message, as this does. More campaigns needed to push the carbon credentials and the 'Buy British' message, as separate punchy campaigns following on, not confusing the core message.

As for the timing, what better time to push a 'eat balanced' message, than at the beginning of 'Veganuary' and as the country enters lockdown again?

Well done AHDB, you just keep it up. (y)

Seen it twice this evening. Excellent advert. Nicely conveys about they grass humans cannot utilise directly themselves.

Even has an assurance label....it must be good! 😂

I was thinking about this earlier. Thankfully I missed most of it, but there was a woman on radio 2 this morning who was pushing vegan food. She was asked why the phrase “plant based” is used more than ”vegan” now, and the answer was that she thought the word vegan had too many negative connotations and is associated with tree hugging hippies.
I texted in (because I always do with that sort of thing) and asked when, in the interest of balance, they are going to do something to promote a balanced diet.
Its a phrase which is simple and understood, not pushing any one food group, and easy to back up.
Presumably this is only the first of a number of ads, otherwise it’s not a campaign.
I can well believe that many people don’t know about pasture or sequestration, but if they’re interested, they can easily look it up.

Most of the public couldn’t give one as long as they get their burger and fries. It’s a tiny amount of people who listen to radio 4 etc. Thanks to public inertia I genuinely think we have nothing to worry about.

In general I think you’re right. My main concern now is that the tripe has been swallowed by the policy and decision makers. We’re going to see a huge increase in the number of trees planted over the next few years for example, in the mistaken belief that they’re better for the planet than grassland.
I’m convinced that the end result will be a big headache for future generations.

I really don’t know. We might be about to see a plebiscite revolution. Maybe “man on the street” thinking will prevail. I think a lot of bulls**t on the environment was promised before Brexit to keep the luvvies on side but now it’s job done we might see a bit more pragmatism ...., like neonics seed dressings coming back. I know the people in charge. I was at college with the Justice Secretary. We even went halves on a newspaper. They won’t let us down. They talk the talk but they will look after us.

I’m optimistic

An optimist is an ill-informed pessimist. Reasons to be miserable:

1) As said up thread, red meat could quite easily today be in the exact same position that wool was 70 years ago.

2) Even if meat does succeed where wool failed, and see off synthetic alternatives, the ongoing structural changes will do for many on here. Corona is being used as cover by the cartel to speed up the concentration of market share. Posters on here are talking about getting out of cattle, and how cattle sheds around them are empty. This isn't due to poor prices, but to dismantling of a properly functioning marketplace. If you aren't big enough, or are in the wrong part of the country, then you are out. Ongoing loss of critical mass, of skills and enthusiasm, is a real and present danger.

3) Despite the enthusiasm being shown on this thread for this advertising campaign, our attempts at promoting our product and our industry remain absolutely dire.
