And so the Pound gets stronger

Germany has thrown it's lot in- yes, I'm glad we agree on something. They have chucked their lot in: to take advantage of a perpetually undervalued currency.
Or perhaps they have taken the responsibility of propping up some junk currency!
The past history of Germany, and the current situation in Southern Europe, suggests that it has not been to either‘s advantage

The German people are indeed becoming disenchanted with the situation and the big problem with southern Europe is proliferation of the black economy due to lack of governance and wealth inequality. These are things that all governments need to keep under control. There are of course similar problems in almost all tropical and sub tropical countries perhaps due to harsher working conditions.

As times get harder the black economy always grows. Anywhere. I’ve never come across anyone who doesn’t work for a bit of cash, especially farmers.

There’s more than a grain of truth in that, who wants to work when the sun is shining? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that democracy originated in Greece, everyone else was too busy working toward surviving the next winter to sit around dreaming about the practice and principles of social equality.

The old adage of they 'work to live, not live to work'. Which seems more prevalent the further south you go. All for it myself. (y)

There is a lot to be said for that BUT some want others to work to keep them in a nice life which is where it goes wrong, as was sais socialism is wonderful until you run out of other peoples money, like it or not the fact is that someone in the EU is going to have to cover our payments and that isnt going to go down well with some voters even if politicians are happy, those governments will need to remember the brexit vote, we rightly or wrongly ignored our politicians, so far they havent leanrt the lessons, even in the UK they didnt and the EU elections and the GE result should be a reminder to them all, the voter is sovereign despite what the MP's thought

A general question to those condemning southern europeans - the ones born and bred here:

How many hard working Germans do you know? How many incorrigible lazy southern Europeans do you know, and of which nationalities? I mean actually know and can confirm your opinion of them because you have personal experience of working with them.

Edit: Incorrect spelling (typing error) and some posters object to that.

And interestingly as with Brexit, the it's the folk in the areas that have most to loose who do the most complaining. Maybe the only solution is to let these areas gradually fail and people will slowly move away to where jobs and work are more abundant? :scratchhead:

My observations lead me to believe that the Germans work more efficiently and with a common purpose. This leads to higher per capita productivity with better regulated state contributions. It does not necessarily lead to a better lifestyle for the individual but perhaps more job satisfaction.

But isnt that why they voted for brexit, the poorer industrial areas feel righly or wrongly they have missed out on the prosperity of the south east banking boom so they feel that any change MIGHT help them. You say those who have most to lose are the ones complaining, it could be argued thats why certain remainers are making a whole lot of noise as they are afraid that they will lose out

This is why Labour have played a very clever strategic card. They are certain that the country is in for a very deep depression now, and who will get the blame?
The left are going to chuck everything into keeping control now , so at the next election, with no Brexit question marks and the country going down the pan fast, they will romp home with an extreme left wing government.
Even with Keir Starmer in charge it will be the most left wing government we will have seen since 1945

That's not for me I'm afraid.

If I was holding lambs until the new year I'd lamb in May or June, or maybe even later if possible.

I've had cattle ready for killing in not much more time than that.
To be fair I don’t lambing till end of April , I’ve tried may stuff that ! I prefer less ewes and make money off lambs as I can keep them for virtually nothing as giving them away between September and December that is a demoralising experience.

Not sure why you think we are in for a deep depression, that is defined as a recession lasting at least three years and a fall in GDP of at least 10 % our trade with the EU is 8% of gdp so even if we lost every penny we would still not meet the definition. Will we have a blip ? maybe maybe not but trade will continue
