A lot of the quad bike mowers are Mickey Mouse. We bought a logic flail one a few years ago, thinking been the scary finance lady could use it to tidy bits up with it.

in reality it struggles with anything long or thick so tend to just use the McConnell flail mower that’s seems to live on a 110hp tractor this time of year instead.

Ours is 16hp I think. It needs double that to be properly useful.

did think about swapping it for a compact tractor/ fergie 135 or whatever and a 5ft flail but decided it was pointless as no one would want to use it wen there’s a comfy air conditioned tractor sat there doing nowt with a working wireless

They all like fuel as they need to be running a decent amount of revs to work properly
If you keep the hammers sharp & move at a sensible speed then they work o.k, its a flail not a finishing mower.
Work better in longer grass if you grade it down i.e first roughing pass to get the length down then a 2nd pass to tidy & even it up.
Long wet stuff is a ball ache as you are running on what you are about to cut. makes a better job when topping dry or slightly damp 12" stuff down to about 4"

Chapman and Wessex are priced near identical, only difference I see is Chapman have a Honda engine while Wessex have Briggs and Stratton

You won't go wrong with a Wessex machine but you can have a better one for the same money! ;)

Depending on which model you're looking at it's either a 21hp or 25hp engine on ours with electric start as standard. Build & duty will be heavier on our machines as we do all our testing and development down here at the factory in the wilds of Devon where we grow rushes for a pastime!

Hi James, I ordered a 1.5 metre 25 HP Chapman from Lamberts in Ireland ( one hour from where I live) two days ago, the Chapman has the edge I think 👍

Dad bought a Logic MF120 in 1989, still going strong, I have had to put a new set of fails and U shackles and bolts on it from flails r us, although they are made of a thicker gauge steel, they don't fling out well when in slightly longer grass! now that they are wearing grooves in the u shackle they are making a better job...
