Battery charger

Looking for a new battery charger for the farm. Got a Sealey, which was good, but it is a big lump to carry around. So looking for something smaller. Anybody use Noco genius or Ctek? Both seem to have good reviews. Or any other recommendations? Thanks

Had a noco g26000 'til the pikeys nicked it. Found it to be a good charger with excellent croc clips on it and manages all manner of batteries well. Has a fan in it and would take a light shower if upright but I wouldn't leave it charging in the rain if you see what I mean. The smaller ctek chargers are better sealed if you want charging in the rough in the yard, despite only being used indoors we've had two ctek s fail and both had broken clips by the end.

If you often have near or completely flat elec fence type batteries to recharge - almost none of the smart chargers will work since they need ~11v from the battery to start charging ime.

the Noco would take an absolutely flat fencer battery and do a handsome job of trying to reawaken it. Trick with the ctek was to put them in supply mode for an hour.

Not sure if this is safe but I have jumped a second battery to the one with low volts then applied the charger. Once charging I have mostly been able to remove the jumper.

Make sure you choose a CTEK/NOCO (I've heard that Noco are actually the better option) that has the appropriate amps rating and one that can do 12v and 24v if you have that kind of machine in the yard.

I don't think the CTEK will attempt to charge a battery that it detects is fudged.

After having a succession of cheapie battery chargers I bought one of these John Deere chargers about 20 years ago - Never looked back.

I have load of cteks maybe 6 ? just on cars left on all the time and heavy duty one left on a large tractor slave battery over the years one or two of the cteks have failed so they are not failsafe by any means the HD one that is I think 25 amp version in a semi rubberized casing replaced a ring one that was rubbish and didnt work from the day i bought it , but i would not say that any of them are capable of quickly boosting or "jump starting" a vehicle that one of the workshop type Sealey chargers would
I do love the switch on and leave aspect of Ctek in that it manages its charge rate and you dont need worry about overcharging.

I Guess it depends what you want it for more than anything as to which way to go probably the best overall option these days would be a booster pack / charger combined so you get best both worlds

Do you use it on Charge 1 and how long will you leave the battery on Charge, overnight?
