Heifers can be abit like that , i like to have hfrs in a shed with a few calved cows so they get to know what a calf is. Had a fresh calved hfr this time roaring and pushing a calf just as the cow had given birth to it and before she had got up to lick it , the cow never took to the calf after. Bas#ards

Good job he got a brilliant calving setup ,
Just wouldn't expect it from a good olde Friesian of all breeds 😳
I had a ped Hereford heifer do that some years ago. She went absolutely loopy for about 24 hrs but did accept the calf after that. I have seen heifers lick and bite at a calfs navel so much they rip the guts out the calf .:banghead: .Trying animals at times.

Had one like it last night shoved the calf about 20 metres, bit of a hormone mix up or something, she settled down in a few minutes, calf is fine.

Think she did it last year too, weaned a cracking calf though

Lims must be top of the league table tho !
Not had much to do with any other breed apart from Hereford X but over last 30 yrs of lims I've seen some cases ....

Trouble is they are not calm next day like these other breeds , they carry it through for weeks !
It's early doors you need them on your side when calf is starting to suck and your tagging castrating and dehorning and they make the job so much harder than it needs to be 🙄

Someone said years ago that you should always take a stick when in with cattle. It might not have stopped it but could have steaded her up a bit. I thought he was being a bit daft not having one to hand.
Glad he was ok, no injuries.

Aye, I’d urge everyone to take care. I try not to be too evangelistic about it but know I’m extremely lucky to be alive after an encounter with a cow a few years ago. It unfortunately left me with a few issues & meant I’ve had to change how I farm this last couple of years, but I know I’m lucky to still be able to.

Some one said to me I’d have been alright if I’d had a stick. I wouldn’t have had the time to even raise it. That was me with nearly 30 year’s experience of working with sucklers at the time.
