I had a shop round for quotes. NFU still cheapest for me.
I’m the opposite. Had them quote 3 times in past 5 years and never been able to get anywhere near to broker i’ve always been with although they have since been taken over by Marsh Commercial.
This year was the furthest out they’ve been.

Not to say they won’t be better come claim time though.

Been with Marsh since they took over my previous company Bluefin. Until now and have gone with someone else who quoted a grand less and had no hesitation off moving not because of the price but Marsh just assumed that they could have the business. No personal communication for the last two years……local office not responsible for claims or renewals. So gone with brokers who are local and listen to your needs

I view service as equally important as price. There are too many Insurers/Brokers/Agents who sell policies and then when the difficult claim comes in say it is not there department and you need to speak to somebody else, generally in a call centre who does not know you from Adam. Make sure whoever you deal with ,that they deal with the claims in house and are willing to bat for you. If you sell the product, then you need to stand behind it!

I’ve stopped getting quotes off Nfu,last time they were double.

We had a new NFU agent arrive locally last year, who was keen to regain our business from our broker Caleb Roberts, so I gave them a chance to quote like for like.
Even with as many introductory offers as she could muster (& NFU membership), she was still almost 50% more than Rural Ins through the broker.
Claims have always been as straightforward as through NFU.

Marsh (another broker) quoted against Caleb Roberts here two years ago, obviously wanting to snatch the business. There was only £50 in it, so didn’t move.

It is always a touch disconcerting when you get one ringing endorsement for a firm, and then posts from a couple of contributors not noted for being idiots, saying "Didn't respond/couldn't be bothered", etc.

For balance, the previous time the local NFU office had a new agent in and wanted to quote was about 5 years ago and again, I let them quote like for like. I didn’t hear back from them either.

I mentioned it when I bumped into him a few months later, and he said they were miles out so he didn’t think it was worthwhile coming back.🤐
I put that down to him being a lazy, ill mannered individual, rather than a company fault.🤷‍♂️
