Some brands of red show up ok.

Our scanner uses marker paste, we still have some coured sheep and red and green show up fine until lambing, blue less so, but can still be seen on most of them.

Pink cow tail paint that’s used for heat detection. I expect other colours are available as well
Not sure if some of the tail paints are scourable for use in wool?
Used to help someone who had a lotnof black Suffolk lambs and red and orange were best on them. White didn't last very long.
But marker paste is probably the best it doesn't fade nearly as fast. But a bucket does a lot and doesn't keep very well.
If you only have a small amount to do you can get raddle powder and mix how much you want with oil. The powder lasts forever.

For all that most wool is worth I wouldn't worry, I knew a guy who used to flock brand his ewes with gloss paint

I bought some of that for my Black Welsh Mountain and found it totally useless. Next day I could hardly see it. As above, orange or red is as good as you will get.White

Downland yellow spray, or a marker stick on the back of head (for horned sheep on the horn).

You'd think of all the people on here one that is in the middle of breeding his ewes up to shed their wool would have thought of that

Some shedding shepherdlessers use coloured cable ties in the ear tag.
