Many times @Clive has said how the NFU is failing farmers, the NFU mutual is not value for money. How things need to change.
@Guy Smith
So with such anti NFU feeling I was amazed to see this on twitter...

From what I have read on here, Clive wishes the NFU nothing but success but feels it appropriate to point out on occasion where they could do better. No-one in the NFU should have a problem with that; all criticism is constructive. Apologies to Clive if I have misread his views.

Two of the most vocal on how the NFU must change aren't members.
The NFU isnt perfect, no one or organisation are.
I am a member and have made a few points about change and they do happen.
Constructive criticism is the key. Moaning isnt any help.

Its difficult having an opinion when in the supply industry at the risk of insulting your customers

anyone that knows or has met me will tell you nothing much gets in the way of me saying what I really think ! friends call it “ truth tourettes”

I couldn’t be more “off message” re the supply industry ! I speak about conservation agriculture / zero-till which is all about LESS less tractors, less machinery , less synthetic inputs etc !! My presentation yesterday focused on cutting fixed costs on arable farms by 65-75%

I beg to differ. Many of those who have ploughed will have made such a mess it will take years to correct the soil. I’ve seen it locally. You can easily lose more money in the long run despite mailing crops in this year. We need to start farming for more than a year ahead. I havnt got everything I wanted in the ground, but I havnt caused loads of damage and I will hopefully get some good spring crops in the ground soon. Rather have a good spring crop than a crap winter one.

Do many gardeners garden without digging over their garden first ?

best soil on many farms will be the farmhouse lawn- the least messed about with !

let‘s also not loose sight of the fact we farm to make money ! You can not make good money from combinable crops with the kind of business fixed cost structure required to use heavy cultivation without big reliance on subsidy ......... so what‘s the point !
