Hi, I’m thinking of getting a 1594 for basically playing on this haytime, always wanted one 20 odd years ago, now in the position where I can warrant having the odd thing just because I want! It will be expected to put in a shift on 250 acres of hay making , big mounted Tedder, twin rotor rake, odd bit of mowing, trailer carting etc...will this wreck it tho really? Are they much weaker built compared to a 956 for example, anything to look out for on them? Any thoughts and advice much appreciated.

How is a bit of work going to "wreck" it? That kind of work is it's bread and butter, it's still a tractor.......just don't buy a broken one because they're not without their niggles as you already know. Oil pumps, injector pumps, injectors, head gaskets, transmission problems. Have you got any particular examples that you're considering?

Find the limit, dial the load down a notch and it'll happily stay there all day. Just spend a bit of time beforehand to check over the usual old tractor stuff. Oh, again, don't buy a broken one.

Don't forget to take plenty of pics and videos for us though

I really like my 1394 and it’s not scarf to put a shift in, but I find 90 / 94 series are like marmite some people love the and some hate them.

IMO the 1594 is much simpler and easier to work on than a 956 with the exception of the hydra shift.

I run a 1594 on a econ hedge cutter used to have two as main work horses'
hidrashift is beater but you haft to pull it down to second each time you stop the lift pump cam follower wears but is an easy fix 1694 brake the reduction gear in the final drive with twin wheels no. but they are good for a days work

Tbh they are as good or as terrible as anything else 35 years old. Probably quite good value as something to do an odd day in as 956’s etc are moving on up in money now.

If you like it, buy it - but be cautious before you expect it to do a hard days work. Some of the engineering in a 94 dates back to the early '60s and is being subjected to twice its original intended HP.

I like the old things, they're good looking and the 6 cylinder engine sounds great. They are brilliantly interesting as a historical snapshot of the dying days of UK tractor design and production, but as a daily workhorse an equivalent era JD, MF or Ford would beat it hands down.

I think the design of the 6x Fords from 1964 didnt change much right through to the 10 series to 1990 ?

We’ve had a few 856, 956 case over the years and found them more or less indestructible, never had a 1594 tho but loved the hydra shift one I drove of a neighbours years back, was lovely to drive and nice looking but always felt like it was perhaps a bit weak, hence the op. Definitely getting one anyway!

Our 2wd 4 cylinder 1494 manages a 6 rotor Tedder easily with weights on the front. A good old workhouse ..... once I sorted the final drives out. Barclay Williams can supply most parts and advise. The hydrashift doesn’t change up anymore on ours but 3rd gear in bottom hydrashift is 10 kph at 540 pto which suits the fert spreader and most things. Just a bit slow on the road. Another job to do, but surprising how we manage with just 3 gears. 1, hedging, 2 baling, .3 spreading, tedding and spraying.

How about parts for the 1594? I’m stuck with one already shipped to Africa and I’m struggling to find a starter and fuel injector pump. Any pointers? Kk
