JC the high protein wheat is Montana specifically. (There is a tiny chance it is Nelson on contract to Bowmans but ...it isn't)
Montana (and Nelson) are german E class bred for 14.5-15% protein. they sell for a healthy premium over bread wheat (circa £20) and frankly they need to.
Montana, which i grow, is very (dangerously) tall and yields a bit behind Skyfall (here). It IS very clean, so some saving there.

I grow it because it is very fast growing in spring and competes well with BG.

Also, although it is not a commercial reason, i do like the fact that it is niche and replaces an import.

does the extra seed cost cover the £25/t premium over a FSS group 1?
presumably theres some small print that forbids you from farm saving Montana.

There is small print yes, and seed is expensive, and you have to buy fresh.
It does tiller well, especially if you force it to, so the lowest seeds/m i plant is Montana. Also last drilled (either side of 1 Nov), which helps initially with Bg as flufenacet works better etc etc.
I would say the bought in seed equates to a £5 cost (out of the £25) per tonne produced vis a vie FSS Skyfall that has gone thru a CYO machine

Yes I knew it was Montana, sounds like yield is reasonable.
It seems a long time ago since I sold 40% of my Crusoe 12.5% min protein for £210t Warburtons, Nov last year. Sorry for the smuggness, very occassionally I get something right.:smug:

Can't imagine your budgie smugglers are worth much. I'll give a sympathy bid of 20p if it cheers you up?
