By the time you've bought a set for a 40' bed it'd be probably cheaper to go and buy an old MF525 12' and stick your harvest student on it for the duration while you and the forty footer go and do something more productive

Set up with skid Just on the ground No problem following the ground a few mm above the stones
tracks and a new Holland help Need confidence in the system With the 4 deck plates older headers with 2 deck plates harder to set up
faster you go the better it rides When the sensitivity is set just right just need smooth ins and outs
10 to 15 k faster you go the less time the beans have to hit the ground

set it up on some very level ground and practice On wheat stubble Is the best as you can measure how long the stubble is the only down side is it wears out the deck plates need some spare double fingers for the occasional bet one
tracks take out tyre bounce but with tyres could try increasing the tyre pressure to the highest

Had to cut some very ripe close to the ground podded beans a couple of years ago if you went to fast they would lean away or too slow they fell out as cut you just had to pick a speed that by the time some had fallen out they were caught on the header . You could see the beans in the split pods standing the vibration of the knife made um fall .

I can take you to a crop Near here, I would defy anyone no matter what combine, however small, combine that is, :) To pick up more than 10%. It looks well podded but I suspect the sensible option would be to plough it in

A very sharp knife and good finger edges helps I have used a high real speed to propel The beans in

combining on a damp day or early morning also helps beans do not wet very quickly once they re hard and dry despite what your moisture meter says

My thoughts are - lifters off, bed out and reel fairly fast to help flick them in and and go for it.
Have you combined beans, like rape the reel has to be operated very carefully or none will get on the table.
if they are lucky and a very dull day may get away with a salvage job , but I would not not like to be driving a 40 foot machine across that field, hope his manager understands!
