Cost of new Macdon header compared to new conventional header.

I must say I am asking the above question out of general interest, rather than a serious buyer.
A farm near me had a new CNH combine for this season and the manager said the Mac Don 30ft header they had with it was £134,000, sounds a lot of money but then I thought how much would the conventional header of cost.
Out of interest an estate not far from me has apparently ordered 2 CNH 10.90 with Macdon 40ft headers for 2024 , to replace 2 Claas 780, they apparently think the Macdon header is superior to the Claas convio header.
I do wonder whether the breakdown back may be the other way round ;)

A Claas 12 m convio flex is £100k - they are very good

come with higher running costs as well - the skid plates wear and are expensive / lots of them !

How much cost per extra acres per year

In my experience a well set up varifeed takes a lot of beating
new knife sections and sharpened double finger edges
if I want more out put I would add more horse power then change chopper blades more often
already cut higher
What’s sharpened double finger edges??

When you look at the guts of a McDon they don't look especially robust, it has to be said.
Was with someone last Sunday putting a new canvas and joiners in the centre feed section, and that was a 1300 bucks repair for the parts.
There is aparrently a new alloy built version around that goes up to 60ft cut.

A few years ago I saw a Macdon Header in Hampshire, and I also thought they didn’t look very robust under neath , to be honest I thought it looked poorly built. That said that doesn’t mean to say they don’t perform well going by what users say about them.

They perform very well, saw some flat barley tidied up quite well with a 35ft+ Flex last week; and they had just picked up 200ac of flat peas with the 40ft Flex on another place

The ability to pick these crops up without wincing and constant fudging about would seal the deal for me. I agree they appear a touch on the flimsy side compared to what we are used to in Europe. I suppose they have to be lighter in build to flex properly?

Take knife out run grinder down the edge of the finger to give them a sharpe edge

also set up knife finger distances properly so it runs like a sowing machine

new sections are 60 p or so on a 10.5 m header less than £100 if you how slower because of poor feed caused by blunt sections soon costs several hundred a day in extra fuel and labour
