Course feed mixes, Galloway & Macleod

I’ve been a convert to feeding course calf when I have young calves on milk, I generally rear 250-300 a year. They should start hitting the ground mid July, so I’ve got a bit of time to sort out milk powder and feed rations,
I generally move everything onto our own grown beans/barley/oats on farm course meal by 12 weeks old but like to start them off with somthing heavily molassed and therefore more palatable, which I can’t store in my silos.
In the past I’ve used gp feeds course calf, but the Galloway & Macleod looks nicer, has better ingredients and is about £100 a tonne cheaper. Does anyone here use their feed? I know they generally specialise in show feed but the omni calf looks a great ration.

I used to rear around 400 calves a year , tried course mix a few times but the calves seem to prefer and do better on pellets and could not pick bits out sorry to stray off your point thoough

we have reared up to 6/700 calves a year, currently looking about 450/500.

great believer in feeding a home mix, or coarse ration, to absolutely everything, except calves under 12/15 weeks.

just find they do so much better, no sorting etc. The old sales rep line, they get a bit of everything, when its pelleted, is true for calves.

That’s an interesting alternate view! I’ve never had an issue with them sorting, but it must be heavily molassed

What mix is that? I’ve found their prices have become a bit of an issue the last 18months.

currently feeding wheat gluten outside, ad lib in creep feeders, was told they wouldn't eat much, once out to grass, decidedly untrue, but sale time is approaching, and they really look good, and the w/g is £200 ton, not £300 +
