Covid Idiots

For me I live with my parents herd immunity carries a risk to the older generation
I'm just unsure about it.
I agree, my Dad is knocking on 85 and lives next door and I'm not for one minute suggested he could do with a good dose of SARS-2 / Covid. So we have been sensibly shielding him and doing routine stuff for him. All we are doing with these crazy lockdowns is prolonging this thing and putting these older folks at a longer term risk not only physically but mentally as well. My Dad is terrified of going to get his routine treatment.

We have to live with it and get on with life because this is no life and we are heading towards a police state.

My own GP has put out a missive on FB from the surgery advising us all to cancel all meals out, entertainment and everything. This from a guy who is on £100k plus, full sick pay and a gold plated pension. To me, a person who's nice little side job as head barman in my 800 year old local was just ended in March with no safety net and now, the pub is struggling more than ever and they still face the threat of future closure, hacks me right off. How many confirmed deaths have they had in the whole of 2020 'with' Covid from this surgery? 1. 1 and he was in his 90s. Really?

This essay further goes on to compare the second wave as a 'Tsunami' and compares to the Spanish Flu. Really? 1 death. At the peak. A very old man. So lets f**k over every hospitality business in the area, make old folk stand outside the surgery in the cold and rain and wait to be called in and the list goes on. 1 death of a very old man. Let's screw everyone else, put them on benefits, put kids into poverty, increase the suicide rate and refuse to see anyone who's condition may be treatable now but maybe terminal in 3 months.

Fantastic. This from a doctor. Unbelievable and people seem to be sucking it up.

It's no surprise that they don't want people like me talking to each other in a quiet corner of a pub. They want it all online so they can read it for themselves.

A colleague and I back in the summer said Covid would eventually pit state sector employees against the private sector employees, and by private sector I do not mean those working for large corporate concerns which will act in similar fashion to state sector. And lo we are there. Yes your GP is safe. Gonna be a rough time.

Yeah. I'm OK but many are very much not. I've had a huge number of people ask me if they can park a van in a corner of a field for a while. That's what it's come to. Meanwhile the public sector obviously love a bit of lockdown as it costs them nothing and they get to watch Tipping Point.

No, that's completely wrong I'm afraid. Remember before you say that pneumonia is a symptom of COVID that anyone who dies of pneumonia will have been tested for COVID and if the fake, nonsense PCR test came up positive, they will go down as a COVID death.

I can imagine Patsy leaning on the bar, explaining to his group of friends. All what is wrong with the world & how he knows so much more than the worlds doctors, economists, engineers. dentists, opticans etc. Most problems caused by immigrants & politicans Mass debators the lot of them.

Playing on the juke box their favourite song.

You'll be wrong and I'll be right. That'll do for my tiny pathetic soul. Sleep well.

I was thinking that just now. Last year I travelled from Kenya to UK most months and I got to thinking what about the crew? How long will they be kept on if there’s no work.? What about the baggage handlers or the cleaners or the girl at the car hire desk or the annoying bloke who checks hire car for scratches. It frightens the life out me the fact that we are heading for mass unemployment unless we get a vaccine or someone decides to show real leadership and works a better strategy than these lockdowns. I read a good article in the Vegetable Farmer apparently local labour has an extra cost of £3 an hour when compared to Eastern European labour so if anyone thinks all those unemployed will be out in the fields next season they’d better be prepared to pay a bit more for a lettuce.

My father in law was a surgeon apparently a very good one my mother in law a doctor my sister in law is a doctor and my other sister in law also works in medicine and my wife is a vet but now farms with me. What I will say about the medical profession is they are very bright but not very practical so if you ask the question how do I stop a contagious disease you will get a simple answer which will be reduce or stop transmission and that is easy make sure people don’t mix ,simple job done. Ask them how do we stop this disease but keep everything moving that’s not their job their job is to keep people alive as long as they can. Ask a Soldier a similar question and the answer will be different probably ‘we can get it done but there will be casualties.’ Obviously if you lose your frontline troops you are in trouble but if it’s the catering corps behind the lines maybe you should tell them to take cover.

Ah yes, over 50 years of living in England, words that brought a wry smile or dread depending on the situation - “my mate down the pub says...”

This situation and application of short (self ) sighted morals / views /implications is the root of so many modern problems way
beyond Covid particulary with rural issues .

Yep. The RAMC wouldn't be leading strategic planning in the leadership group, although the RAMC leadership would most likely be making a better fist of managing the virus response than what's going on currently.

I don’t disagree.

yes, I listened to the clip on BBC this morning. Three clips with differing views. Somewhat balanced. As is often case with BBC. BBC detractors on here will not agree though I presume!! BBC World Service is a very balanced channel. I often listen to the World Service. Hey ho.

I had been listening to radio 4 but it just got too depressing too many government ministers justifying their positions even throughout the summer it seemed they were waiting for a second wave and they were going to get one whatever it took. As for BBC bias jolly red faced farmers aren’t news. However I think you would struggle to find a better news medium anywhere else in the world.

Son just asking if I remember the 1968 pandemic, he says it killed 30,000 in Uk & 1m world wide
Told him I had no recollection, 18 year old rampant in the YFC & beyond. Keeping 2m from anyone else, especially female was not on the agenda ;)
Compared to 18 year old grandson, YFC on hold, apart from a few pints at the local pub he has done bugger all recreationery since March.
Some progress, Is it all to do with scientists & polititions watching their backs in case they get blamed

Less STD’s will be the progress then

those of us with daughters away at uni might be quite content at the current way of things 😂

you may be unaware that the death rate has started climbing very sharply, which is expected as deaths follow nearly a month generally after infection.
There is little doubt though, they know far more now than 6 months ago of how to treat these serious cases. Witness one D Trump esq. ( if he ever had it ) :):)
