Cutting laid barley

Any pictures of this, I have the long shedder like @Two Tone pictures, but it's not always ideal.
I have the same. Just a length of round bar bent upwards in a gradual curve and bolted onto the front corner of the header. Idea is, instead of trying to force a divider through, it sends the heads under the edge of the header then the reel picks them up for the knife to cut.
When it's working well, with a bit of sun, it leaves an edge in a laid crop like someone went along it with a pair of scissors.

Don’t be afraid to cut in a different direction to normal, Barley will hang in cloudy conditions, if you have a vario header play with the knife position, Class long dividers are fab. If you can slightly tip the header angle forward to change the lifter angle can help. Oh and drink plenty and have paracetamols on hand.

Remember seeing the same thing done with a long length of lorry (leaf) spring mounted ~30-40 degrees up from the horizontal, directly forward from the front bottom edge of the header (where the divider normally fits. Logic says it shouldn't work (pushing the crop down rather than trying to separate it), but it does ....... and it's quick to make & try out.

A few years back I had the same problem with my Claas and I found out that you can get a little finger that fits in the end of the tine bar that helps pull it off. It has helped a lot.
Do you have a photo of this or a part number please

I have a JD with a 625r header and am having problems with the crop on the field side building up against the reel lift ram to the point the header starts ripping the crop out of the ground. Does anyone have any solution to this problem. I have put an old long divider on, which helps a bit but hasn’t solved it.View attachment 1125477
I think your pickup reel is too low , dragging the crop before it's cut

Cut one way is what I used to do on flat oats ,no hope both ways
I’ve even tried cutting and leaving enough to slide between the dividers coming the opposite way. Works some times if it’s just the divider causing to problems. Gps is best for this as the dust will most likely be the wrong way and make it hard to judge the width to be left

If you cut one way take lifters off

You need to change the combine to one that has all those extras fitted

That bit of laid barley will be done in no timeView attachment 1125612
Can remember my dad telling me about his first new combine back in the early 50s. Massey 29 I think. 8ft6 cut. Still a bagger machine. He did say the contract work he did that year paid for the combine. Can’t see me ever telling my kids that. maybe I need to get started earlier lol

Our JD does exactly what yours is doing. Hopeless design. It’s the design of the point.
