Brace yourself.... sounds awfully familiar.

Generally we are awash going into May, and it's only just damp enough now to bring the earthworms out of dormancy.
The last time we were "wet enough" is going on for 3 years ago.
Pete , whats Ken Ring saying about this years weather ??? A few years ago ,2009 i think he made a prediction for lreland that was so accaurate it was amazing . R ain stopped on the day he predicted and the rest of sept and the first forthnight of Oct were like Summer . Raim returned on the predicted day the 17 th i think . Ken then got a colunm in the farmers journal for awhile until the met service kicked up merry hell and his predictions were discontinued.

He’s wrong about as often as he is right.

My neighbor pounded round and round with a borrowed roller and four wheel drive tractor last week until he bogged it up to the transaxle.

15 minutes of ripping to get out, a chain on the roller, then the rest of the day fixing the mess and trying yet again to roll it in.

He’s about 74.

:(

:eek::eek:

:banghead::banghead::banghead:

:scratchhead::scratchhead::scratchhead::scratchhead:

why ?
just, why ?

the ONLY sensible conclusion I can reach is he must have dementia or Alzheimer's ( my father had Alzheimer's, so I am qualified to talk about it ), as surely its a ridiculous thing to do ? THAT is the sort of decision making my father would have done, shortly before he went into care for the rest of his life . . . :(

Why is the age relevant? Do youngsters under 65 never get stuck?

If it was race that was constantly mentioned on TFF, there'd be an outcry.

Endriggs panned down by machinery then rolled, then 2 inches of rain
Basic kids stuff really, rollers shouldnt be used in march

Age was mentioned only due to the fact it should be basic knowledge when, and when not to roll land, in this case Glasshouse phrased it as ‘Basic kids stuff’.

He’s not a kid.

He does it most years, as far as I’m aware he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s and is actually quite fit and healthy for his years.

He takes serious notions that often don’t make sense.

He begs and borrows tractors until their owners get fed up lending, as soon as it sinks or breaks he complains at how useless they are, and as soon as he gets a new loan machine from somewhere else he scandalises and ridicules the previous machine.

I know people like that and age has nothing to do with it. I am polite, agree with everything they say, don't lend them anything, and we get along fine. If they want to roll their land with their rollers behind their tractors, that's fine too. If they get stuck, I'll evaluate the situation and help if they deserve it, and if not I have a whole catalogue of excuses and reasons I can pull out at the drop of a hat to explain why I can't help.

BTW, I'm 79 and find it rather rude when people state age as if that explains everything. Maybe we should state age in the 'Wreckers" thread? That could be very revealing!

Without wishing to be rude in reply to your concerns of rudeness, you should rest easy as no intention of ageism was implied nor intended.

If I had said he is 42 nobody would have got offended on the behalf of 40 somethings, so too if he was 53, perhaps also 61 - but once I mention he’s in his mid 70’s it’s hold on - your being mean and degrading to old folks.

No. Simply put. NO!

Whether he be 33 or 73 you, he or I should be an adequate judge of whether or not land is fit, this and simply this was implied.

He may aslo be or not be, abit of an arse in some people’s opinions, not an old arse, nor a young arse, just an arse - if however it was deemed to render him immune from such an opinion that some people may or may not have of him simply because he is a septuagenarian that would indeed be ageism.

No prejudices here.
