Did anyone catch the headline from this guy. Apparently the food sector, farming and fishing are not critically importortant sectors to the UK.
This smacks of Blairism and ignores food security. The theory being that others can produce cheaper and more efficiently than us. The car industry is another example of similar defeatism. So what are we good at --drawing the dole and pushing paper across a desk? It sounds very isolationist but I feel we are in grave danger if we expect the rest of the world to look after our basic needs.Well there’s the sign they’re going to be thrown under the bus.

I am totally focused on my achievable aims ! If the government and Brexit party are listening to narrow minded opinions like his I am very disappointed.Dear Arcobob, my apologies if am wrong but I hav you down as a Tory voter? And so I will just point out this guy was working in the inner bowels of the Conservative and Brexit Party, the party having been in power nigh on a decade. Amusing or what!!
Best wishes.
PS Have you had any recollections of any other ladies of foreign origin snapped with your trusty box brownie!!
You may have also noticed that I am a Nationalist. Who is the Conservative and Brexit Party ? A fantasy of your imagination perhaps. It is right that opinions are taken into account but this one does not fit with my thinking.Dear Arcobob, my apologies if am wrong but I hav you down as a Tory voter? He is a London School of Economics graduate. That says it all , thinks only in straight lines and no vision outside the box. A globalist thinker with no broader perception.
Read againI’m pretty sure I read on this forum somewhere that Brexiters wanted a Singapore style economy.!
This fellow is thinking out loud, breaking out of boxes, suggesting possibilities etc. etc., and long may he and others do so - and then be ignored when it's b*llocks.I’m pretty sure I read on this forum somewhere that Brexiters wanted a Singapore style economy.!
One simply cannot revisit the promises and untruths of the brexiteers! They have simply delivered the will of the people. So when it goes tits up it will be the people’s fault. You seem to forget the first rule of the Brexit supporting politician, “It’s always somebody else’s fault”.I’m pretty sure I read on this forum somewhere that Brexiters wanted a Singapore style economy.!
Seeing as you're criticising the supporters of Brexit on the basis of dishonesty... what are your thoughts about the EU's originally saying that a 'Canada +' deal was their preferred outcome of Brexit, and their complete volte face with them now saying that such a deal is 'impossible'*? Just asking. One simply cannot revisit the promises and untruths of the brexiteers! They have simply delivered the will of the people. So when it goes tits up it will be the people’s fault. Well that’s a response to Johnson’s posturing!! Maybe the EU think that it impossible to negotiate with someone as inconsistent as Johnson? All anyone can do is wait (some more) and see what happens.Seeing as you're criticising the supporters of Brexit on the basis of dishonesty... what are your thoughts about the EU's originally saying that a 'Canada +' deal was their preferred outcome of Brexit, and their complete volte face with them now saying that such a deal is 'impossible'*? *'impossible' being the EU term for something they don't want, will sulk a lot to avoid and will then accept.
Was looking at an apartment here the other day it's in good nick and in a small well maintained block, the local taxes were around 4800 euros per year, no wonder there are loads of council workers clearing snow etc, Macron came to visit the town a couple of weeks ago after the Mayor kicked off about lack of snow, half the police force of France must have turned up about 6 hours before him, they didnt check the drains or any thing just stood about town laden down with bullet proof gear and sub machine guns, some protester managed to let of a fire cracker by his car while his was in the cable car apparently and the mayors web site got hacked by protesters too. Got to love the socialist state that is France, its what's mine is mine but what's yours is mine tooThis fellow is thinking out loud, breaking out of boxes, suggesting possibilities etc. etc., and long may he and others do so - and then be ignored when it's b*llocks.
There some aspects of Singapore's economic model that are great and we would be daft not to learn from and emulate. There are other aspects that are fine for what is, effectively, a city state but which would not be appropriate to us and we shouldn't even waste time considering.
I, for one, am all for the former, that being pragmatic targeting of / for the economy and the pursuit of our national interest as far as possible.
However, and nobody can accuse me of being a left-winger, I'm on the record as having advocated the maintenance and promotion of essential industries - to the point of a from of nationalisation* - and strategic assets too. We can have a very successful, free economy and guarantee national security too.
*I have no problem with national ownership of e.g. railways or energy supplies. But, and this is the key, we have seen time and again, here and abroad, that public ownership combined with public management of any given industry is a rarely a recipe for success. Using railways as an example, I would happily see them nationally owned but franchised out and fares set by government. If a fair is set of £1 for a given journey and a firm can run it for 20p, they get to keep 80p and good luck to them. If it costs them £1.20, they lose. We need to see the complacency of public management replaced by the dynamism of the profit incentive.

Parking is great here, they just park anywhere they like but most houses have signs up saying private parking, during the busy half term the gondola car park was full up so loads just park on the side of the road, there are big signs saying no parking but no took any notice, then one day every car had a parking ticket folk were going mad, next day loads more parked there, no tickets this went on for several days then out the blue a load more tickets, it's all done on a whim it seems or perhaps the mayor needs a bit of cashIt is a highly socialist country. Has been for a long time. Having been there a lot that is the first thing you recognise.
