Dutch Openers; single and double row 5" openers.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the benefit/drawback of these two. I used to like the original duetts on a Horsch CO which banded the seed, so similar to the open backed single dutch. Or is rowing the seed into 2 rows better?
Many thanks.

I have the lower picture 5” open backs and the seed is spread very similar to the duet row. I understand that the closed backs are more prone to blocking so i was told by another user. Yields from the 5”Dutch are the same as duets in my experience. I have some 3.5” Dutch closed backs to go on sometime this autumn once the 5” are worn out. Main reason for the change is to allow direct drilling when suitable.

Slightly off topic .
Which openers irrespective of make give the best seed spreading , so much so that you cant see any drill rows,( the field looks as if it was broadcast), there by allowing the maximum amount of space for each individual grain to tiller with least competition and “in theory” the best smothering effect against weeds especially Blackgrass.

The Dutch 2845 5" spread tip will give you seed spread across the 5" seed bed creates. https://dutchopeners.com/tip/2845-2/

The Dutch 2827 5" Paired row tip will offer you lees seed bed utilization overall and will offer 2 one inch wide rows closer to the outside of the wings. https://dutchopeners.com/tip/2827-2/

Hope this helps.

@DutchOpeners I understand you make a 6” opener, if is this correct are they available in both spreader and paired
Unfortunately we do not make a 6" tip to fit the Universal series opener. The tips mentioned above do measure closer to 5.5" wide and will most likely fracture soil out to 6"

We do make larger spread paired row tips that are mainly used for applying seed and NH3 at the same time. This is in our precision and precision edge series. These can be seen on page 38 and 50 of our catalogue that you can see in this link. https://dutchopeners.com/wp-content...ture-2022-Catalogue_WEB_Medium-Resolution.pdf
