Ewes, no lambs!

Just been through the lambing shed to see how many are left to lamb and I’m horrified how many there are with no lambs, either lost them early on on the root field, rotten/bad lambing so left with out a lamb or had no milk. We lamb 550 indoors, Welsh mules to texel Tups and got 25 running around with no lambs. What would be a reasonable number?

8 ewes in my cull field either gave up adopting after 7 days and 1 lost both lambs and was a nightmare, others maybe didn’t have milk. I’m still lambing but expect another 5-6 left at the end so around 14 out of 1400 lambing ewes/ewe lambs, mainly outdoor lambing but anything that looks like it’s aborted is caught instantly, if has milk gets a lamb and if doesn’t have milk goes into cull field.

If I was being optimistic i would agree with the 5% not being a disaster and at the time I can honestly say we did all we could given that our lambing help didn’t come and didn’t let us know for definite until one week in but we do vaccinate for toxo and Enzo and feel the figure does need improving next year, it seems like a huge disaster compared to 14 out of 1400!

How many pet lambs do you have?
i don’t enzo or toxo so a few do slip, a ewe lamb slipped this morning and had milk, a 2 week old lamb who’s mother dropped dead went straight on 👍🏻

65 pets, a lot of triplets at scanning and we take one straight off, to be fair nothing has slipped a lamb since the first few days in when we had no lambs spare and after buying in watery mouth a few years ago ago with pet lambs to go on a few ewes without a lamb it’s not something we do now

How many ewes have died.
You may have more with no lambs than others, but they may have more dead ones than you

15 since mid February, 3 easter Monday which was a bad day! One on her back, one I’d injected for mastitis the day before and one that just appeared to have had enough of life!

Similar rate to me then, makes me feel better 😬 lost more the last 4 weeks than the whole previous year combined 🤦🏻‍♂️
Same here. My dad came to help me vaccinate late ewes 2 weeks ago an ask how many I had lost this winter, none I said. Well that was a mistake wasn’t it, 3 dead the next day and have had ewes slipping and dieing for various reasons ever since.
