I was once given the advice (by someone who used to bulldoze a lot of trees for farmers), that if a "do gooder" comes over and questions you, make sure you listen with your mouth open, and in the end they will think you are retarded and leave you to get on with the job.
So if I start listening with my mouth closed, will people think I'm not retarded?I was once given the advice (by someone who used to bulldoze a lot of trees for farmers), that if a "do gooder" comes over and questions you, make sure you listen with your mouth open, and in the end they will think you are retarded and leave you to get on with the job.
What sort of road? M5 or a bit of a country lane, iirc you can block a lane up for max 20 mins, it wouldn't worry me too much unless it was an A road, plenty of cones/signs as neccessary and be sensible. You can guarantee you won't see a car until you've a massive branch half cut off and the digger rocking on its tracks. What's the situation with using a rubber track excavator to do some work on roadside hedges?
I have a large roadside hedge to tree shear. Most I can do from the field side but some would be a lot easier with the digger on the road. It's a 5.5 tonne so a not massive.
I often see roadworks men roll up with a lorry and trailer and just unload the digger and get on with it. You can't road register one so just wondering how I stand legally.
Possibly notSo if I start listening with my mouth closed, will people think I'm not retarded?
Single track country lane. Just wide enough to pass in some placesWhat sort of road? How long would it take 3 days or a few hours?Single track country lane. Just wide enough to pass in some places

Will do what I can reach from inside then see what's left. I'm guessing half a dayHow long would it take 3 days or a few hours?
I'd blast on without a much of a care, our little place is split into 3 by a country lane so we've got to block the road up to get stock in etc. When there was more of us we'd stand on the road and let the cars know what was going on, now we park stuff to block it all up, as long as everyone is courteous and sensible it won't be a problem. Will do what I can reach from inside then see what's left. "Emergency work" is the answer... Council do not need a road closure in an emergency, according to mate who used to work for the Council on streetlights. So as an adjoing landowner you can do the same, but needs safe working as described above.Get a couple of mates use mobile phones block at each end fare enough so they can't see you vehicle must have broken down no vehicles coming when cutting trees.
