My local dealer was telling me this morning that there is a rush on to export machinery to Ireland and Poland before January because in2021 all exports will have to be thoroughly washed and will have to be inspected by a vet!!!
Mad or what

I buy tractors from Norway and thake them to Lithuania. It's always needed to wash them and ask for inspection, then you receive a phytosanitary certificate which you can use to enter EU. However, you also need to register on TRACES.NT system where you upload all information and you also need to register as plant grower or something like that. It is a pain in the... When I did not know this at first time, the truck was rejected by the border control...

brexit has got nothing to do with it and there's no rush to export before jan for cleanliness reason's

Presumably there’s a risk that on 1/1/21 we will become a third country with respect to the EU and have to comply with their import rules? I can see that needing cleaning to certain standards, just like the pallet guys are working flat out to make inter border compliant ones.

As I understand it, it's the place it's going to that matters. Not where it's come from

I dont think I will be directly importing anything or exporting in the new year.

Looks like a load of hassle and more work too me.

Got 2 gearboxes going out to Belgium hopefully next week but I think that will be my last export.

It varies from country to country. Australia and New Zealand have to be fully sterilised. Others couldn't give a fudge.

What else is going to change regulations between the uk and Ireland on new years day but Brexit?

I'd imagine the panic isnt for fear of washing, it's for fear of having to pay duty post Brexit.

There will be a bedding in period agreed, problems at ports both sides, but it will have to be solved, as transportation of goods has to happen as the Uk is a massive consumer of European goods, the manufacturing companies won’t take kindly to delivery delays and increased costs, that make goods financially unviable.
Backloads to Europe as now will still be required,
I think there is an under estimation of who needs who most, !!

There will be a big difference between new items being transported where they will be able to standardise the paperwork going both ways. It's going to be a big pain for used secondhand equipment as the paperwork for each item will significantly add to the cost. I've bought a few pieces of equipment from the UK and brought to Ireland. If they have to be professionally cleaned and certified it's going to add alot to the cost and might not make it worth my while.

Transportation delays either side of the channel will result in protest, especially by the French,
hauliers will not be financially able to sit in a queue for two days either side of a crossing,

I thought after Brexit farmers would be so poor they will be using their existing gear for the next 50 years, so no imports or exports will be needed... or maybe someones wrong, and a new Fendt will be ordered for next harvest?
