Farm Software/Big Data

I've been meaning to put a thread on here for the past week but another email today prompted me to do just that.

I've noticed 3-4 companies have now offered decision making cropping software.

First off was a post on TFF regarding trialling "Crop Monitor" online software to aid decision making.

Shortly after I had an email from BASF inviting me to try xarvio Field Manager online platform which looks very similar indeed to the Crop Monitor system.

This morning I had a Farmers Guide email letting me know that Hutchinsons "Omnia" platform which has been available for some years at a certain cost via their agronomists is now available to "try free.....forever".

Anybody else noticed this in recent weeks? I know @Clive has been raising this topic regarding "Big Data" for a number of years after the Gatekeeper situation.

I haven't had Gatekeeper offering me "benchmarking" services in return for them selling my data lately. Big data is worth a lot of money - that's what all the tracking cookies are for every time you click on a website.

Time to get me one of these so they can't read my brain;

Completely agree. The internet of bollox exists to sell one stuff that one doesn’t need. Fortunately most people already know this!

its fine having the data but the one factor they cannot imput into the system with ant degree of accuracy is the weather in 3 weeks time
one certainty is that the weather can be further from the average on every measure either more or less rain heat sun or frost
no one predicted 2012 or 2019 wet or 2010 dry or the beast from the east
