How often do you clean them out?

With bales its about once every 2 weeks

On clamp its every week.

What do you do?

Flat passages here as I hate troughs, scrape 500ft of feed space in about a minute every morning and let cattle with the least need eat the scraps.
Not dairy cattle

2 to 3 times a week but only because I've young stock to eat it,silage feed via tmr will not keep as well as block or grab fed silage

Maybe 4 times a year would love to rip them out and just push up but the powers that be above me say otherwise

If your silage is right and clamp management is right I can’t see why you need to clean them out so often. Silage is expensive to make without chucking out in the dung spreader.

100% agree.
Bales create alot less waste than clamp.

we don't have "troughs" but ring feeders and barriers.
I've worked with troughs before. Hard work!

Used to be every 2 or 3 days when barrier was not covered, now once a week, usually get a small wheelbarrow of waste per week from 150 cows

Grabbed grass/maize into feeders. It’s never very much unless someone has been to keen feeding up. Would leave it till the next day in this case and cut back a bit. I can’t stand seeing rubbish in the bottom of a feeder rotting. When we fed in round feeders we had to leave waste in the bottoms or otherwise the feeders could be pushed around the yard like the cows were playing chess!
