Have you had any rain yet? 20mm at Plumthorpe last week, not that it's going to make a huge difference.

I was watching that rain on the radar - we only got about 3 mm from that one.
Was actually home then, planting chick peas into the only two fields that had a decent depth of moisture in them
We had 70 mm in march & another 50 about a month ago, but still a long way to go to fill the profile up.
Rule of thumb is we want around a metre of subsoil moisture before we plant a crop, so at this stage that looks like all I will plant this winter & the prospects for the summer crop arent looking good at this stage

I remember speaking to Graham Goodwin sales manager at DOE Agritracs Framlingham branch last autumn and he said one of his customers had traded a 500 Quadtrac for a new Fendt 1050, ive no idea how the farmer has gotten on with it. Give him a call, im sure he could point you in the farmers direction for an appraisal of pros and cons, if any.

We use a Vaderstad rapid and a Horsch Sprinter, both 8m wide. The drilling system is very much under review hence one of the reasons for posting the original question.

Sorry - didn't realise you were the OP

Euro planting equipment doesn't have much of a presence here, although Horsch are making inroads.
Rough generalisation, but most zero till planters here up to about 12 m are pulled by the larger FWA tractors. Once you get bigger, or start going deep ( up to 8 inches ) to chase moisture, then the bigger artics / tracks come into play.
The Rapid doesn't appeal to my system at all ( too much soil disturbance for a start ), but I am interested in the Sprinter ( 12 m on 15 inch spacings ) it does appeal to me due to its simplicity.

What's your opinion on the Sprinter ?

Thanks

Sprinter is a good drill and has historically been the drill that will muddle a crop in if it gets wets. Plenty of sprinters on Dutch or Borgault coulters in the uk doing a very good job. Sprinter will be my first choice drill this season ahead of the Vaderstad largely due to hp, soil movement and running costs.

I really like the look of these. The air cart looks so clean and simple compared to the American machines. Pretty sure it’s what I will be going to when the time comes just need them to offer a 15 meter machine

Ok, maybe it is
I knew they made a 12 & 18, wasn't aware of the 15 until I read that article

It's the 12 m I'd be interested, fits in with our system

What's the wear / maintenance / service life of those rubber bushes that the tyne is mounted on like ?
