Field hospitals

Watching the news tonight, there's a stark contrast between the 4000 bed Nightingale hospital in London

and the half hearted 'scout camp' in Central Park NY.

Somehow I do feel that New Yorkers really have drawn the short straw now.
Where would you rather be treated?

The response in the US has been pretty poor, so far. But, learning from history, I wouldn't underestimate their capacity to get things done once they finally pull their fingers out. (y)

But there is the ship and Javid Centre too...

Some of us have been wondering what the air in nhs nightingale will be like for health workers and patients. 4000 sick people in one room. However credit where its due it looks pretty well done.

I saw a fellow being interviewed, I think on Sky, and that was mentioned. Apparently if the fans are on at even well below max capacity, it can get a complete change of air through the whole place every few minutes - I've no idea what that will do for the heating bill, astronomical I guess. The centre was designed to have a hell of a lot more than 5000 people in it, so it should be able to cope well. (y)

reckon the guv has done a pretty good job. No country has the necessary equipment, in store, to cope with anything like this. Loads of people knocking them, but with false statistics coming out of china, a global demand, for too little equipment, they certainly cranked up some gears, amazing, that they could get all these new 'hospitals' going so quickly, I would have put long odds on that ! Put in the money, to try and keep businesses going, they cannot do everything, but for such an unexpected calamity, I reckon they have done a brilliant job, and still trying to get holiday makers etc back. The fantastic response of retired medical staff's call up, how industry have responded to the call for ventilators, really glad I live in this country. And then you get yobs spitting at police, people ignoring the lock down, moaning about the restrictions, FFS what planet do they live on ? perhaps they would prefer India, total lock down, but no food delivery yet, 3rd world countries, with nothing in place, there's 17 million test kits en route, when there is a desperate world shortage, hoping to test 25% of the population. On top of that, our top guys, caught the virus as well.
All in all, the guv needs a bit of praise.

wow, really didn't expect that post to be liked that much ! I had just about enough of hearing people knocking the guv, when, in reality, it can't do much more. Just done an on-line survey, re c19, questions slanted towards blaming the guv, for not enough done, took pleasure in the comments section on that ! Pity we cannot hear more positive moves on the media, it's scary, all the lockdown is doing, is helping to keep us alive.

Bad news sells, or gets watched / listened to / viewed etc..

A lot of the media have an agenda, and they shouldn't; at the very least they should shelve it for now. Their attempts at leading questions, idiotic comparisons and, most irritatingly for me, the never-ending asking of Ministers 'Do you admit...?' FFS, an 'admission' has connotations of guilt or wrong-doing; they're trying to create news rather than report it. Disgusting individuals.

The BBC, in particular, had a chance to prove its worth in the current situation, it has failed utterly, merely continuing with its left-liberal b!tching and agenda. It will regret that later, and serve it right.

I'd go with that. Even Raaaaab convened his first press conference with some gravitas and intelligence despite the loaded and planted questions

I have family in New York, well I did have, my aunt and uncle spend the winter in Florida so they are not going back. My step cousins have got out of the state by breaking every distancing rule, they are Americans so think that there some amendments to the constitution that mean rules don’t apply to them.

Joking aside they are truly scared of the situation in the city/state. There is no belief that the authorities have any idea what to do.

As good as the Nightingale hospitals look in the photos, there seems to be next to no medical equipment in them in the photos i have seen.

My fear is as this escalates, this is where they plan to send the worst affected that have the least chance of survival, and the youngest and fittest in society with better survival chances will be treated in existing hospitals.

Hope I am wrong, and hope they wont be needed at all.

Desperate times

The American states now seem to be locked into a ridiculous bidding war with one another over medical supplies and ventilators. But Trump seems incapable or unwilling to intervene. This is not going to end well for them.
