Flail toppers

Looking at new flail topper, 2.45 to 2.6m cut, have narrowed it down to Teagle, spearhead HD and weaving wkn, anyone with recent experience of these models, looking most likely for heavier duty than we might need as want one which will last and can occasionally do saplings growing up in game cover.

No experience of the machine you are looking at, but I fully concur with your thoughts on getting as heavy a duty machine as you can afford.... then pay a bit more on top... You will appreciate it a few years down the line. ;)

Avoid the spearhead the paint on them is shocking. Teagle would be my choice from your list but Kuhn and Shelbourne flails are in another league.

Teagle pretty good but KUHN be my weapon of choice very well built.
What is the attraction of the Kuhn? Is it a heavy build, I notice there is about 200kg difference between the standard and HD models of 2.6m cut.

Never used one but they certainly look the strongest out there, been looking at one to replace our SMI. I wouldn’t have the Spearhead, if only because of the terrible parts reputation of the alamo group.
Tmc another one I dont know, spearhead are made locally so assumed easy to pick up parts, similar for weaving who we buy bits off, very good service but dont know how their flails perform.

Not sure about the others but I see there is a drive belt tensioner on the Teagle TBM flails, that’s definitely going to make your belts last longer, like the look of them.

Ive got a KRM zennit, which is a good machine, I particularly like the flail hanger brackets on the rotor as the are ‘C’ shaped and enclose/protect both ends of the flail pin.

@Dave W has a minter Del Moreno flail. New I think it or shop soiled. Heavy duty well made good price.

The shopsoiled one has gone I'm afraid. New owner got a bargain.
they are a hell of a tool for the money Easily on a par with any of the premium Italian brands.
I'm able to get a price for a 2020 machine though
What are parts supply like, do they do one with a 2.6m cut to go behind 84hp tractor. If yes please PM me price ty.

Got a Kuhn 280 here and it's survived everything I've thrown at it..... and i really am a typical rough on machinery livestock farmer.

Run it on a 80hp JD, best thing I did to was swap the hammers for knives,
The topper takes far less power to start and run, plus does a massively better job, my plan was knives for summer and hammers for winter scrub cutting, but the knives are much better for scrub too!

Defo worth getting knives priced up at new
