Never bothered ours...Was going to fluke and give covexin 10 to lambs. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that this could have bad reaction if done together, but not sure..
Should I do them on different days or be alright both at same time?
Thanks
Never bothered ours...
On arrival all stores get;
Bravoxin or Covexin 10
Fluke drench
Worm drench (if not on a combination)
Copper bolus
Mineral drench (cheap and cheerful)
Trace element bolus
And the small hill lambs get a shot of Vit B complex.
They rattle and slosh a bit afterwards but it doesn’t appear too bother them
Don’t mind at all.Whats the rough cost of that lot per head, if you don't mind me asking?
What treatments do your feeding ewes receive?
Don’t mind at all.
Total doses cost is 1.48/lamb
Then add the cost of a dunk in the dip. But I’m not working that out on a per lamb basis! it’s £196/can and a can does quite a few.
Ewes get a fluke and worm dose & a mineral drench. Horned ewes get copper bud too.
True, those aren’t the “off the shelf” prices. Always ring around 3 or 4 suppliers at the end of August with my list and see who shapes best. Points are also awarded for the most free drenching guns and jabbers!!I was expecting 5 times that. Suppose on a large number of lambs you've a saving on buying products in bulk.
Thanks for that, good to see and hear from folks who know exactly what is happening in their business.

No freebies no order. It’s as simple as that...You must be buying a lot I can’t get a bloody free drenching gun too save my life [emoji24]

Nah, the big suppliers don’t want too deal with normal folk. I use the standard farm supplies shops. But when my initial autumn order can be getting on for £2k they just have too shape themselves.Do you buy direct from supplier? The bulk of my stuff comes through TFM which is pretty cheap anyways so can afford too buy the odd gun but my and a Charolais fell out at the weekend and broke the end off a gun... got the spare out then a stubborn old mule stood on the spare gun [emoji24] begrudges me nearly £30 for a new one again [emoji849][emoji849]
I’m mean... I’ve got a pile of unopened ones but they are the ones I don’t like very much, not comfortable to use you know what I mean. I keep scavenging the “too fix” box for parts too keep my favourite ones going!+1 I have about a dozen in my ‘to fix sometime’ pile, but they tend to stay there while I’ve still got freebies sitting in unopened packets.
I really must get to it though, there are 3 Optiline guns there, which are actually handier guns than most of the others.

Always the first question... what’s short dated or on offer?? Then think is it any use too me? The main place I buy from do ring every now and then when they have 10ltr of wormer or suchlike getting close that needs shifting. Not very often I can’t work it into the program somewhere.Like your way of thinking, do the same shop around and this year due to covid one company was selling short date lamb bolus at half price and purchased to do the lambs and gave the ewes two of these bolus instead of the normal ewe bolus. They worked out perfect.
I put an order in of a couple of £k for my autumn fluke, footvax and boluses plus all of next years lambs boluses and pre lambing. Never get freebies mind....Nah, the big suppliers don’t want too deal with normal folk. I use the standard farm supplies shops. We were fluking suckler calves the other day, brother had the fluker on his back, I was clipping backs and jabbing with clostridial. He dropped the gun too steady a heifer so I could clip her head and I stood straight on the gun... what I said rhymes with duck. Loudly and repeatedly!

Doesn’t take long too add up does it?? I’ve never had much luck with Footvax. But we get very little foot rot here. Scald in the lambs, then the ewes tend too get CODD rather than footrot.I put an order in of close to £6k for my autumn fluke, footvax and boluses plus all of next years lambs boluses and pre lambing. Never get freebies mind....
Tribex £55. - 15.4p per 70kg ewe.
Footvax £210. - 84p/head
It’s ok, until a few years ago that’s how we worked. Then I took over buying stuff a bit more and started aiming for extra discount.I really need too start planning what I need too buy in advance and doing a good order I might get a better deal or a free gun haha I tend too just go down in my truck and get what I need for the weekend so while I probably spend £3-4k there a year it’s in £200 bursts
Yeah that’s every autumn too and apart from half of the boluses the footvax and tribex would be used within days, 1 supplier delivers here or in the area twice a week but the one that’s had my autumn products for 3 years don’t deliver small items but their the only 1 that do the boluses I want except for delivery directDoesn’t take long too add up does it?? If I was you spending that in one hit for autumn I’d expect more than one freebie!!
