Where are you getting a good price on a Nissan
I have been pricing pickups and the Ford is only a couple of hundred pounds more than the Nissan
These are the best prices I've found for Nissan with 5 year / 100000 mile warranty and 2 year / 18000 mile service intervals. I'm aware of the coil springs and towing issues but there are heavy duty springs available along with air bag assist fitments if needed. These Rangers from same supplier appear to be up to 7k more expensive on the higher spec models with just a 3 year warranty

@YELROM, Please let us know your best prices on Ford and other pickups you've had prices on.

The Penny has dropped! Mr Yelrom has a new pickup so Mrs Yelrom has a new camera in compensation. That's how it usually works in the Duck household too. I get new pickup and she gets the kitchen or sitting room painted or new curtains and we all live happily until the next time there's a big farm purchase.

A Nissan Navara Tekna double cab is just over £20,400 and a 2.2 Ranger limited is just under £20,400 before adding towbar etc

That seems a better price comparison than mine although I would think it would need to be the Ranger 3.2 wildtrak to compare with a Tekna spec??.. The 2.2 Ranger would be a similar unit to the 160 hp single turbo engine in the Acenta model.

Just wanting to bring this thread back to life; been seriously contemplating a new ranger but this thread is scaring me. Has there been any improvement in new models when it comes to the issues brought up here?

I can't comment beyond 2013 model , but they were shocking all as discussed above

as i understand it the facelift versions have the upgraded oil pump fitted. Which apparently has the same part number as the old pump. Probably as an attempt by ford to deny there's a problem.

It also appears that the dealers are in denial about issues but i personally know of 2 3.2 and a 2.2 that have had oil pump failure within 10 miles of my farm. All of these failures have been on the pre facelift versions and all with between 60-90000miles on the clock.

Was wondering about 2nd hand but that’s that out of the window. Maybe lease would be th best option but not keen on not owning my vehicle tbh.

That’s what I’m after. Been warned off by two people so far. Have to say there are more fans than haters.
Don't be put off the 3.2 ranger is a lovely truck, especially when connected to the 6 speed auto box.

My advice is if it's out of manufacturers warranty get the oil pump replaced. yes it will cost £4-500 but it's worth it for peace of mind.

on the bright side the ranger doesn't appear to fill its sump with diesel or snap in half like some other brands...

Don't be put off by a used one. Just get the oil pump replaced for piece of mind. that's what a lot of switch on owners are doing. I was going to get mine done once the warranty had expired and had even got a price from the dealer to do it. However i was made an offer i couldn't refuse to replace it so took them up on it.

Speaking to a neighbour the other day, and asked him how his Ranger Limited was going, fantastic pickup , going great he tells me apart, absolutely no bother apart from throwing a conrod out of the block.!:eek:

It had about 40k on it. Ford dealer had it in and swapped engine for new under warranty no quibble at all, and he had a courtesy loaner as well. Disappointing but dealer rescued the situation pretty well I thought.

Having had 2 ford pick ups now. The first one a 2.2 and was a pup and eventually ford replaced it after a lot of stress, I now have a 3.3 which I can at the moment only praise but it has only got 33k on the clock.AS for the oil pump issue I was told by a mechanic that the reason the oil pumps sh!t themselves was because the used plastic vanes and after a while they came brittle and broke off ,great idea !!.Now this mechanic claimed he worked for ford direct and change hundreds of pumps on the transits ,but told me they had changed the design less than 2 years ago on these pumps

How rude :) I swapped my 2.5 sump filler for one of the last of the 2.5's before the new 1.9 klankers and it doesn't fill the sump ..... yet! Runs and tows good enough but engine isn't as smooth as the 3.2 Ford. I'm awaiting the Ranger Raptor - which I know will be too expensive (n)
