Free Hay Crop near Chester

The Land Trust manages 6.7Ha of meadow at The Countess of Chester Country Park, CH2 1UL, which yields about 120 round bales. Due to our current agreement coming to an end, we are looking for a local Farmer to cut and collect this year's hay crop. As the site is open to dog walkers, the hay would only be suitable for beef cattle, due to a risk of Neosporosis.

The hay would be free to the Farmer, in return for cutting and baling the grass. If you are interested, please get in touch with [email protected]

The Homes and Communities Agency provided the Land Trust with funding which will effectively secure the long term future of the park. This funding will ensure this park can be managed for community benefit which will have a direct effect on the lives of thousands of local people, creating positive outcomes for health, social, cohesion, education, environment and the local economy. The Trust will work with other adjoining landowners including the NHS Trusts, to secure the future of the open space as a community health and well-being park.

If that really is your publicly stated (And funded?) aim, I suggest that you concentrate on the bit I’ve made bold and do all you can to prevent this poison entering the food chain - animal or human.

Uncontrolled ragwort within spitting distance of grazing horses. The trust should be prosecuted to the full extent of the Weeds Act. Despicable. If nothing else, @Land Trust , please feed back to your colleagues that your organisation is well below par on matters of health and the environment.

I think this thread shows the reality of 'environmentalism' in the UK today. A glossy facade of words on websites and 'mission statements', backed up with generous public and charitable funding for all those involved in the management, despite them having little or no practical knowledge of how to actually manage the environment at all. As shown by the idea that anyone would want to make hay in the latter half of August or early September out of a load of toxic weed contaminated dead grass. And there won't be a single bit of decent wildlife beyond rabbits and urban foxes. A complete and utter mismatch between the hype and the reality.

'I say Tarquin, do you think we could get some peasant farmer type to clear all these weeds for nothing, it would do wonders for our budget you know. Might even allow us a cheeky little bonus come year end!'
