Frontier to blame for holding the OSR price down?

OSR is currently around £320 with demand out stripping supply in the UK easily, importing large boat loads from abroard mainly Canada is holding the price down. Neonics dressing still used over there.
I have never dealt with them and don't think I will to be honest.

Don't worry in a few years they will be gone as there wont be enough rape for them in this country for them to do business with . Come to think of it wheat as well the way things are heading . Support you local grain firms and trade in smaller lots to be risk adverse, jumping into bed with the big boys ain't all its cracked up to be .

I listened to Any Questions driving home this evening.

There was a question about tree planting claims by the various political parties. Ben Habib Brexit Party MEP was quite clear. He rubbished the EU and CAP making some quite spurious claims. And then went on to advocate importing cheaper food (20% cheaper) and widespread tree planting. He did not seem to concerned at all about ongoing UK agricultural production. Fascinating.

The future for farmer buying and selling will be in large national cooperatives that exist for the sole benefit of farmers as the model used in France and Germany. You buy your seed and supplies from them, you sell your grain to them, they pay back a dividend at the end of the year. They also take care of breeding and the like. With subsidies going and a much sharper collection of farmers going forward I think the industry will become a heck of a lot meaner and more focused.

Very constant pattern in osr markets is in disappointing yield years sell early before the boats arrive and short the markets - there is a 6-8week window post harvest to do so then prices drop

I would agree with this. The French co ops are impressive. UK farmers don’t like working together at the moment.
Some of the big buying co ops in this country are incredibly top heavy and have very quick turn around of staff, the prices are generally not any benefit either. There is too many people doing utterly pointless jobs, I am a member of one and recently someone phoned me up to tell me about a group Trip to the bury sugar beet factory. I thought what on earth are they paying someone to phone members about a bloody jolly to what can best be described as Mordor.
Farm farmers and Anglo farmers both looking for new MD/ceos, anyone sense a merge?!

I really hope they dont merge! We are ff members and they are fantastic. Af looks far too top heavy and not streamlined enough imo. A case of Jack of all trades master of none. Above a certain size co operatives become less efficient

I’m a ff member but the prices are no better. It just makes invoicing easier for lots of random odds and sods. Don’t get many inputs through them. Mobile phones we do but they sub contract it to another company which seems to be defeating the point of it all! To be honest I don’t see much future for big buying co operatives with technology advancing as it is. Other half works for yagro which is very interesting to see what they are doing and I’m looking foward to see how farm marketplace gets pushed over the next few years by Chris and Clive.

Only hearsay from a lorry driver hauling into Cargills at Liverpool, said they can't get the oil out of the stuff coming in on a boat, his exact words were "it's sh!te".

The driver was bright enough, complaining at how little he had hauled in this year and it was all coming on a boat instead. The info on the quality came from the guy on the intake he talks to, my guess is they have imported some that is too dry to squeeze the oil out.

1 load sold earlier on and rest is staying were it is at the moment.

United oilseeds told me that about Cargill’s cheapo osr in Liverpool. They’ve got to blend it away with better quality domestic rape seed oil. My heart bleeds for Cargill!
