I stay in Central Scotland, not the western Isle. Must be a tenner up on the year. Trogan Act own mix.

Don't forget there are so many variables involved the last thing to think about is cost.

Dont you do grass seed @ Clive in Market place . Seems one hell of a price variation. Long term grazing mid £40ts to high £90ts

Funnily enough, I took them all off earlier in the week it's not the best way to offer seed as I said above you need to know answers to other questions before you can judge if the price matches the product.
At a proper 14kg/acre your mix is close to £50.00/acre.
And, don't forget a Scottish mix would mostly be 15kg/acre minimum.

There are so many variables with grass seed. A mixture designed for our Hampshire chalk wouldn't do well in Scotland. You really want a seedsman who will discuss with you what grasses do well in your area depending on rainfall, soil type etc. To be honest what's 20 or 30 quid on a mixture that will be down for 5 years? Compare that to the annual spend on maize seed. Our leys come in at around £100 / acre, but they grow well in our area and are well worth the money,

It's not brain science, we used to use a lot of custom mixes . But then we have got Aberystwyth Plant Breeding station up the road . The big loss was Trawscoed EHF . That had hundreds of trial plots there testing varieties under farm conditions and there advice was free and plentiful

I was told we should look at plant breeding in northern France for our area. Rest of the uk has a lot more rainfall than our area.

If you are putting a long term ley in with no clover then you need to be sowing at least 15kg an acre. 16Kg would be better again if there is no timothy present.

I was quoted £105 an acre for an organic long term grazing ley by my cake firm the other week but @Great In Grass saved me around £30 an acre and fantastic service as arrived quickly after ordering. Shame @Great In Grass you don’t sell organic cow cake?
