If future proofing is the main concern, and you can graze, a lower input grazing system would be less exposed to market volatility in the long term (both inputs and outputs).

Ring fenced leans towards grazing, seems wasteful to cart forage in when you can walk the cows to it.

As others have said, 1000 acres of good ground would not have to be managed as one herd.

Farm to suit the land, as everything else, cows included, can be changed but the fundamental strengths and weaknesses of the farm cannot.

If you’re in Kent I imagine there’s plenty of arable land nearby for slurry? You may even get lucky and be able to sell muck to arable farmers .
That’ll help massively with environmental compliance.
