Currently running an older Grimme comi web chain driven machine and looking at a changing to a newer belt driven machine . At the moment I’m looking at either a Grimme cs 150 with 6-7 rows of vari stars then 36 mm web and also a scanstone 4 Webber with 37,37,37,32 mm webs.
Will be working in some fairly steep stony land for ware potatoes . Have no real experience of a star machine but would be interested in peoples views on both machines and output ect . Pretty much on the swing on which way to go at the moment . Cheers

Scanstone.

Stars will prob give more output but leave quite a tight bed compared to webs in my opinion, but some of our ground is on heavy side. Upkeep when get worn could be a nightmare, especially on stoney ground.

Scanstone 4webber with reversible scrubber web option would be best option

Plus they’re built here. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

always preferred webs here . Stars ok for declodding but let too many stones through as they wear . If your short on hp carrying enough muck over the stars can be a pain too .

scanstone would be my go to Gordon skee knows his stuff

Just to add options/confusion. Have you spoken to Billy about a standen?
They will have star only, stars and webs, or webs only machines. 🤔

I used to use a 150 cw grimme on the Yorkshire wolds. As long as you kept the machine full and kept the stars replaced if they were worn they didn’t let too many stones through.

Yes stars more pricey but last longer than webs, on the Cs you can adjust the stars. On stone free sandy soil we open stars up, and vice versa. Also run a combi web and all webber in the past, its down to the operator and conditions can get small stone coming through webs as well, depends on the size of the stone, flat ones are always a bugger. The Cs means we can get away with bed tiling as much now, especially with reversible scrubber web.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
