Has anybody seen 1 or is using 1? Looking into getting 1 but only ever seen them on youtube or parked up at shows. Look good strong machines and ideal for the job we need it for but there not cheap and the more info about them the better. thanks.

I am running one, what would you like to know??? They are a very strong machine, had ours a few years now, no other machine is comparable when its come to broadcasting seed either for over seeding or complete seeding, however I am tempted by a direct disc drill as my system is slightly changing now, let me know if you want to have a look at mine

Do the 3 rows off tines do enough ripping for overseeding , or better how many passes for an overseed ?
How do you find the fingers on the ripper board?
How is the prism roller lasting , much wear ?
I see you mentioned a change in system , but why change to disc drill, is there a shortfall with the guttler ?
Sorry for been nosey

Exactly what I was wondering too. Also what sort of fan is on yours? Hydraulic or PTO driven? Have you tried sowing spring barley with it and what size of tractor is on front? Thanks for the helpful reply.

Mine has an electric fan, can be changed though, for sowing barley it would definitely need a hydraulic or PTO fan I think, mine didn't originally have the ripper board but just with the harrow tines it was very aggressive. However since the ripper board was fitted it really does make a fantastic job of opening the ground up, I have had some fantastic results going into 2nd and 3rd cut stubbles with vigorous over seeding mixtures, you want fast growing short term varieties for best results. The prism roller is ideal for just doing enough to press the seed in however it doesn't pan the surface like a flat roller can do (take note that the Moore grassland unidrill is now also using the guttler roller as well) as far as wearing is concerned you just add shims to tighten the rings up, I haven't even fitted shims to mine yet though. The only reason I like the idea of going to a disc drill is due to being able to drill straight into sprayed off ground without having to cultivate.
Hope this helps

Great help cheers, can the guttler not be set really aggressively and make enough of a job on sprayed grassland? Our plan is either after 2nd cut or 3rd cut sow some seed in to help rejuvenate the fields or spray off at back end and once dead broadcast it in. But just as long as it makes a good tilth though.

APV make a decent looking machine for overseeding. My big concern wi5h the Guttler is ability to create enough tilth

The guttler will make twice the tilth that apv machine will make, in the right conditions it can semi cultivate a field and create serious seed to soil contact which is the key! I have never tried to drill straight into sprayed off ground with the guttler, I'm sure it will be fine in silage stubble its just on the grazing fields with more of a dense mat of old grasses I think it may struggle! Grass seed is so expensive nowadays it needs to be put to good use!

TBH I find that hard to believe with only two rows of tines. There is a 6m around here and it needs two passes for overseeding, if it wasn't for the fact the owner has a lot of tillage ground and uses it for rolling it would be away. I run an Einbok with 10mm times and at times they are just enough to scratch some tilth. Profi did a test of some of them, makes interesting reading.

Have u seen the ripper board in front of the tines on the guttler??? That's what creates the tilth, the tines only rip out the rubbish grass like a normal set of time harrows would.

Well for cereals you need a hopper!

The bin isnt that big and the pipes for distributing the seed would need to be slightly bigger in my opinion.

The rake would be good enough in light soil thats been ploughed but ideal suit min till, tho saying that it would need to be covered over if straw chopped as i feel that it could clog up.

the rear roller is very good at what it does!

I know you need a hopper but it's how it puts in the ground and how it grows that matters.

Everything would be done behind the plough - front tank with wheel press followed by ripper tines, spring tines, seed and then guttler. Surely seed coverage would be an issue?

Really like how modular the whole system is. Fancy incorporating a row of low disturbance subsoiler legs into it.

How are people finding it as a grassland management tool when they're not overseeding or is everyone always putting fresh seed in?
