Grass to grass full spray off, you do need moisture, if the ground is hard as it is now you struggle to get the deep tilth as the tines bounce off, it does work fine with a pouched field as this helps create more tilth. We've modified a set of discs for the front linkage now to try to create a bit of extra tilth in hard conditions. Seed placement is far better than aitchison and the prism roller does a great job too.

By going grass to grass have you had any problems with wireworm, leatherjackets or frit fly? Or have you yet to come up against them?

We are using 18kg/acre seed rates to compensate for pests and do spring re-seeds as conditions are generally better (more moisture in ground and able to graze throughout summer to promote tillering), we would have previously used dursban though.

18kg/ac as an over-seed?
No Spray off grass to grass, 13kg patching damaged areas overseed. Find the overseed is a quick fix and doesnt last that long unless everything goes right, needs really careful management afterwards, in order to get new shoots to compete with existing sward , prefer to spray off and put in correct varieties for application.

Do you apply lime before reseeding after sprayed? How long after spray off have you been sowing? Got a sandy field of italians on the last year and thought of just directly stiching some in at backend. Cheers

Yes we apply lime, or calciprill if a small amount, graze hard, green up for 2 days, spray off, drill following day, graze at 2500, then on an 18 day rotation after that

We have the Dalbo machine with Guttler roller fitted.
Works well but in old lays it need a couple of passes. We usually half the seed rate and go left/right then up down if that makes sense. Have had some very good results adding clover back into lays .

You going to do damage with that setup!

Keep photos coming , be interesting to see if will do too much chopping and how the guttler puts it all back together

Ever use guttler straight into cut stubble, drags straw ??
Only into existing grass really, once kale to kale with bad results as the winter grazing created a hard pan which the kale roots couldn't penetrate, then the weeds took over.

Last year we went into cut stubble and used front unit to make tilth and rear unit just covering wheel marks really, worked well. Can drag if set wrong or too aggressive
