Horsch Avatar Maintenance (or not !)

Are the Avatars generally as low maintenance as advertised ? What is the bearing situation etc and any other maintenance issues people have had ? TIA

Local farm contractor running a 12m over about 5000 acres and he's not that impressed. Discs are doing about 75% of the area and he is having to replace bearings as well. The linkage's for the seeding units are also an ongoing cost. It is doing a lot of work but I think he was perhaps led to believe it would be less than it is. His sprinter it replaced was much better apparently.

You have to be careful not to run the drill with too much pressure on the press wheels. If you’re not careful you start to carry the weight of the drill on the press wheels instead of the depth wheels. You soon lose bearings in this case.
Running the drill correctly setup makes so much difference to wear rates and requires hp to pull it. Horsch put some different depth wheels on part of our old Avatar. They worked well, but ate bearings.
I love the Avatar. Seed placement is excellent and the ability to conserve moisture and not chit black grass is brilliant. We have a new machine on order.

How are the linkages wearing? Are they bushed?

A disc drill is always going o require more maintinence than a tine drill, you cannot really compare the two
