Post driver with a rock spike. Done plenty. Just drive spike through stump. New post will follow hole. New post will in right place for gate.

Very complicated answers on here. Bash a new one through the old. If you start digging it up (which is the only other answer) you’ll be loosening up all the ground and the new post will never be any good.

Any chance you could have a go a bit sooner? I’ve a few to do and I’d like to know how well it works before I bugger up my rock spike. ;)

I suppose if the spike gets stuck in the post, you’ve then got the hydraulics on the post knocker to pull the stump out.
Few yrs back the one & only time I’ve got the rock spike stuck - under an oak tree, must av jammed between roots….. absolutely fast as f**k had to take it all apart & got the digger to lift it out - and that struggled to….. hell of a job. Mind u @TelesnaAg probably thinks I being tight again & should av jus left it & bought a new post driver………..!

I had the exact same thing happened here, even down to the species of tree. Merlo struggled to get that out too.
That’s why I’d like you to try it first… 😂

used to have a black powder muzzle loading gun.

had some powder that wasn't doing as expected. Mrs found a wasp nest in the lawn, and some idiot decided one night, after skittles, might be a good way to get rid of powder and wasps. Poured a decent amount of powder down the hole, stuck some newspaper in, as a fuse, lit and stood well back.

Only 2 mistakes, 1st actually doing it, 2nd, not realising the hole wasn't straight down, but sloping.

To be fair, wasp nest destroyed, powder used, and idiot covered head to toe, in dirt and remains of nest. The slope on the hole, blew it exactly where stood, few feet either side, would have been fine.

One learns by ones mistakes, so they say.
