My youngest son is lactose intolerant so we have always had lactose free cows milk in our fridge for him, I can’t stand it though, doesn’t taste right

however recently we have been buying him oat milk and I really like it, much prefer it now in fact

anyone know how they make milk from oats ?

How old is he? My 2 were really bad with lactose intolerance as it’s in both of our parents families too. They grew out of it after being on a dairy pyramid where you try an item for a few days and then progress further up the pyramid, now they both regularly drink cows milk from the glass, have it with cereal every morning and a couple of times a day included in yoghurts, cheese etc.

so could wheat be made into milk ?
Technically, there should be no difference in the process of producing Oat milk, Wheat Milk or Barley Milk. They are all starch grains that can be reacted with enzymes to produce the drink. Whether the flavour of wheat or barley milk is acceptable is another issue

he just turned 8

he’s not as bad as when younger and does as you say introducing a bit of lactose into his diet, he does seem to be growing out of it as he gets older but it was very bad when he was a baby

I don’t know what’s involved with making things but they make wheat beer which is lovely and obviously barley is made into beer, what else is added about from yeast? Would wheat and water or barley and water turn alcoholic instead of milk like I wonder?

It would need millions in investment, not saying it can be done however mass production may not be possiblefor the average farmer. I looked into it a few years ago. Oatly are big players and are currently looking for something in the UK.

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
