I've got a field to finish, rained off last week.
Will put seed rate up to 230kg and press on at some point next week or so.
But I'm not in the frozen North.

When we were kids I remember going to the village fireworks party and dad was going up and down the field in the distance sowing winter barley as the sale had only just gone through was a ok crop but full of sterile brome I remember

Was the brome in the seed? Normally drilling late is helpful with brome.

New land, maybe previous farmer was a bit slack on weed control & rotation?

Assuming it goes into a decent seedbed, barley will be OK, likely to be more straw with Nov drilling. Put it into wet mud and compaction it won't be any good at all, barley doesn't forgive a bad start.

Well I suppose 7th November is too late. Managed to get my bit in today. With combination drill.
Has actually dried well today.
Trouble is, MetOffice app now says wet on Wednesday, was giving pretty good all week last Friday  .
