I have double fenced ditches, to stop the cattle pulling the ditch banks in, then after they have been fenced, thought may as well plant a hedge (with standard trees), partly as I like the look, for wildlife habitat and connect ability and as a windbreak for the stock too.Question to all you guys planting trees, where are you planting them? Replacing dead trees on established woodland? In or on new or old hedges? Rough ground? Or on what was productive farmland? Just interested
They will be plenty thick enough in a few year I hope.Serious spacing there!
That’s good land to be planting with trees , rather regimental as well , why plant good field like that ? Or is it not as big a strip as it looks , ?View attachment 943903Finished planting this yesterday. It’s to join two established woodland blocks.
Agroforestry, we'll maybe double our drymatter production per hectare inside a decade.Question to all you guys planting trees, where are you planting them? Replacing dead trees on established woodland? In or on new or old hedges? Rough ground? Or on what was productive farmland? Just interested
It’s almost pure gravel, burns up in March. That’s good land to be planting with trees , rather regimental as well , why plant good field like that ? Or is it not as big a strip as it looks , ?

Some in rows, but mostly in corners of paddocks where it's easier to keep cattle off them while they establish.
500 paddocks = lots of corners
Unfortunately it’s not mine, so not my decision. I’ve got a sneaky feeling some of it might be under roofs one day. Well looking at its location, I’d go for it.cant you farm underneath it first!?
bet a nice Lake there would look lovely!
It is a bit. About 1000 of these, and half a tonne of 1.6mm HT.500 paddocks??? That's lots of posts and wire!! Both for the paddocks and to form guards round the trees.
