Oh right .. so all politicans, authorities etc should act this way.

It's already been discussed. As a head of state Kate's role will be to provide moral support to the nation. Perhaps her engagements are reduced but looks to me as though most heads of state are continuing in their role in support of the populace.

Same reason why BoJo was able to go to visit Scotland as PM.

So do as I say not as I do. As ever the words of the ruling elite throughout time.

It seems odd to me that a German family by the name of Saxe Coburg who by birthright have anything to do with being head of state in the 21st Century. But then to compound it that now a daughter of two BA staff has the same gig. Tis a funny old world. Having said that she seems a reasonable cove.

Indeed. And the main reason I have time for William and Kate is - they met out totally uncontrived while at College. Now that I suspect was never in the courtiers plans!! And they seem to have made a fist of that initial friendship and seem settled and comfortable with each others company. I just hope that William and Harry can come together again as brothers in a while when things calm down. Best wishes.

I don't watch much news, my understanding was that they have arrested a serving policeman in connection with the death of this woman. I'm not sure what kind of safeguards could be put in place that will ever truly stop one human being from murdering another with any certainty, and I'm even less sure what good protesting about the incident will do in the grip of a viral pandemic.

200,000 families have mourned alone, unable to seek solace in the arms of other family members or friends since covid began in this country. They have obeyed the law at personal cost. Those unspeakable rule breakers at that demonstration deliberately called upon use of force by the police the instant they refused to disperse as there would have been no media gain if they had said sorry, hung their heads in collective shame and went back home as they should have done. Use of force in policing is a whole world apart from police brutality. So no, the police are not stupid, they are upholding the law. It's what WE pay them to do.

Speak for yourself my father apparently died with Covid so he's one of the numbers you quote he got it in hospital where he should have been safe. His last year especially the last three months was absolutely miserable due to draconian Covid regulations. We as a family were separated from him during his dying time by the State. His sister couldn't have her Cancer diagnosed because her GP wouldn't see her for a month. So she suffered without treatment for a month with terminal cancer before getting to see a consultant. (She died a week later) . The shutting down of society during this crisis has caused more hurt to people than Covid would. Whilst we as a family have avoided mixing too much outside we definitely have not and will not follow the fascist dictates of Boris and his gang. To be honest I never like these protests as they always get hijacked but a woman was murdered by a serving police officer apparently a highly trained firearms officer someone apparently meant to keep her and others like her safe. This disease isn't going away in the long-term as long as there are old and unhealthy people it will always be around vaccinations or not but what worries me is it will be the excuse used by the state to control the activities of anyone or group it disagrees with. That may sound ridiculous but looking back on the last year you'd be unwise to place bets on a return to normalcy. So my personal view as someone who Covid has caused great loss to is for people to get back to doing what they want not what they are told and if that means people are still happy to hide away from this disease its their choice good on them. For me and my family we have a different opinion.

Looking forward then what will government do in the future with Covid and for that matter seasonal flu. Havin set its stall for the past 12 months to prevent deaths (and repeated interminably that prevention of deaths was the main priority) how can restrictions on personal contact not be introduced for ever at times of the yar when respiratory transmissible diseases abound. And thus what is the acceptable death rate government will allow, espcially for the elderly who would usually succumb to flu.

Well the death rate has been around normal for the last year and that is clearly unacceptable to the government/media with reports of thousands "sadly" dying even though same number as usual.
The "pandemic" is popular so will definitely be back in some form, if it ever ends.
I would think a bout of mask wearing and handing out cash before next election is likely.

Already taken as read, yes.

It's the insidious nature of some of these crimes that needs tighter legislation so as to nip them before there are problems. Deal with those who "want" to commit serious crime before their behaviour escalates.
We all know people who seek loopholes. Some seem to gain a perverse pleasure in finding gaps between the spirit of the Law and the letter of the Law. In sex crimes, such people need to be intercepted early.
Unfortunately changing the laws will have no effect on these crimes as the perpetrators rightly in most cases believe they will never get caught, I'm afraid it's the type of society we now live in.

A great fuss is made as the accused is a policeman so idiots suddenly try to tar all police with the same brush, he could just as easily been a dustman, the mistake was to let any protests starting with BLM go ahead in the first place. The virus started in China & I still do not believe it is a natural occurrence that suddenly after all this time miraculously infects the whole world, we continue to make China stronger at our peril!

It's also why we should not put up with it. Changing environments to curb predators is something farmers know about. Just saying whatev's, and accepting harm as inevitable is of no help towards progress.

Harold Shipman was a doctor, a man who took an oath to protect humanity. I don't remember the crowds of woke activists defying the police then.
What we have now are groups of folk who like a good grumble and a good rumble safe in the knowledge that the police might drop them to the ground but they won't get shot and secure in the knowledge that a criminal record for activism will help them get a job in a drop in support centre for abused ginger vegan transvestite single parent refugees.
Somewhere along the way being a criminal lost its social stigma and became a badge of honour for The Woke but they still maintain other criminals are scum, and society somehow accepted that as an okay situation. Talk about having your cake and eating it.
We live in a society of laws, if you don't like it vote, if no-one is suggesting what you want in their manifesto stand for election. In a democratic society you don't subject policemen to viruses or harm to change things. But holding a mass gathering to shout about something that is already illegal is going to achieve what exactly anyway?
'What do we want? Murder to be illegal'
'When do we want it? Oh it's been that way for a millennium'. Crowd looks around in embarrassment, sinks head deep into shoulders and shuffles quietly out of frame.

A great fuss is made because it was a policeman and rightly so. The virus started in China more than likely and if it was man made they couldn’t have done a better job. A virus that takes out the old , fat and unfit something the west has plenty of. If people are worried about the Chinese taking over then they’d better toughen up because all covid has shown is what a poor frightened bunch people in the west are.

Two big male coppers, manhandling quite roughly a female protestor, in the age of social media and camera phones, is above and beyond utter stupidity.
There was a lockdown protest in Dublin a few weeks ago, where a scumbag fired a firework at the Garda, injuring one fairly badly. Thankfully, the police did not react. They simply dispersed the crowd as peacefully as possible. Over the next couple of days, they trawled the CCTV footage etc, and invited “suspects” to attend a local station for interview. Dozens were arrested and charged. Those who didn’t attend voluntarily, had a visit in the early hours. Good policing.
The Met chose last century tactics in the era of social media and wokeism! They need a shakeup.

Very sensible. The police in states did the same to catch those who stormed the Capitol. Obviously you can’t let it get out of control but you can let people convict themselves.

The rules are in place to stop virus spread, crowds are not supposed to be allowed to form.
Belatedly catching people is useless.
If we going to allow crowds, then what about funerals etc
