over my farming career i have seen massive changes in high tech machines, and systems, old man started with horses, horses to robots, unthinkable really, but now robots are entering farming, where will they 'stop', or will they simply take over farm labour ? If change keeps going like it has done, all my life has seen constant change, not always sure for the best, what will our children, or grandchildren see, the mind boggles, because some of the changes, will be such, that we can't even dream of. On the flip side, guv looks like paying us to go backwards, with elms !

You don’t have to pay a robot overtime or sick pay, it doesn’t get tired, will do repetitive jobs consistently and without complaining! It’s the initial cost that will put the tech out of reach. Although how much is a new tractor!

But you DO have to service it, charge it, apply updates and sort out system bugs etc, all at consultancy rates.

farm security, 24 hrs a day, the guard robot, tweak the programming, it could say to anybody not preloaded, 'exterminate, exterminate', should stop the unwelcome, especially fitting a tazer !

Thats the thing about 'disruptive technology', it whips the rug out from under those who think they're safe from the advance of science and capitalism. Another 50 years and there wont be many of 'pink squishy bits' involved in the operational side of agriculture.
If you want to profit from 'your land' or farming in the future, you'll need to buy shares in whoever ends up as the last global corporation left standing...

Robots are being used in warehouses very effectively now. Something is put somewhere and the collected later (sounds vaguely familiar). Some of that tech is transitioning over to Ag. I agree that nothing yet I have seen will make a farmer more profitable, I'm not sure we are far away.

The big problem as I think you are alluding to is that there are no robots that are even close to replacing your capital outlay. You will need a robot and all your tractors and sprayers. Thus a robot has to be justified on operating costs. Which is much, much harder.
