Cant find any example of Covid19 death in the RIO no being accounted for honestly.I wouldn't say it "hypocrisy" to get the stats wrong, which were then correct. after this is all over i'm sure we see some major revisition of RoI numbers as they work out who did and didn't die of covid-19
It might as well be overseasLeo Varadkar has been accused of "insulting nationalists" after describing Northern Ireland as "overseas" during a radio interview.
Leo Varadkar accused of 'insulting nationalists'
TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar has been accused of "insulting nationalists" after describing Northern Ireland as "overseas" during a radio interview. The Fine Gael leader made the comment while discussing the number of global members of his party. "We don't have a lot of...www.irishnews.com
"Mr Varadkar's faux pas follows the party's Employment Affairs minister Regina Doherty defending her government's failure to brief the Northern Ireland Executive about plans to relax lockdown restrictions by saying the government's "most important task... was to tell Irish people".
First Minsiter Arlene Foster revealed on Monday that the Executive did not receive advance sight of the Republic's plan before publication - despite a cross-border memorandum of understanding between health officials and assurances last month that the south would discuss any tightening of travel restrictions with their Stormont counterparts."
Arlene is in charge, so she has the ultimate say, the rest are just her subordinates so how the country is run is a reflection of what she allows to happen, be that good or bad.
agreed but the two partys that are going together in the ROIArlene is NOT in charge. both Arlene and Michelle and Equal, and one can not act without the other. you being confused by their job titles. and in truth they should be called Co-First minster
also the biggest piece of irish hypocrisy is when the RoI government insist that we work with SF in the north "because that who the people voted for". Yet in the RoI they doing every thing they can not to go into government with SF, putting together a very odd alliance of parties that don't normally work together

Do the ROI have that much power over you boys that they can make you accept a party that you don't want?also the biggest piece of irish hypocrisy is when the RoI government insist that we work with SF in the north "because that who the people voted for". Thankfully I've been away for over 2 decades so not very up to speed with who is screwing who these days.
If guess if SF (NI) weren't there those of nationalists and republican persuasion may all vote for one party, potentially knocking the DUP off the top spot.
And although I would like to see terrorist types like SF and the DUP beaten down, SF are to a point it seems part of what's keeping the DUP at the top right now by keeping the nationalist vote split.
Remove that split and the union is weakened. No?
I think they're working on the theory that they have nothing to loose and it's just a matter of getting their timing right.Unionist vote is also split between the dup and the uup, at a push I'd say most alliance voters would be unionists. Many moderate nationalists would also vote for the union to remain on financial grounds (can't see Leo sending many billions our way).
SF are smart enough to know this so they are slowly starting to talk of a border poll but the real push will come when they are pretty certain they can win, 10 years at least I think maybe sooner depending on how Brexit goes.
Legacy of the Civil War down south.agreed but the two partys that are going together in the ROI
may as well be one as there is no difference between their policies.
SF on the other hand policies are off the wall for most of them
Most Alliance voters east of the Bann would be Unionists, West of the Bann in some areas in recent local elections the alliance vote was around 80% nationalist.Unionist vote is also split between the dup and the uup, at a push I'd say most alliance voters would be unionists. For my sins I was at the LE count for one of the more rural DEAs in the Fermanagh and Omagh. Counting agent for UUP candidate. The DEA would be mainly nationalist, It was very interesting to see which areas the alliance votes were coming from and then the transfers. In this particular ward there was an anti goldmine campaigner effectively another nationalist and a former sdlp cllr standing for the new republican party Antou. The Alliance candidate did not put up any posters only did a postal leaflet, most of their effort was devoted to Omagh town, but despite a lack of campaigning he polled 311 votes. Similar story in neighbouring rural DEA. When the Alliance candidate was excluded from the count the majority of his votes transferred to either the goldmine campaigner or the sdlp candidate. 8 votes to the DUP candidate and 28 votes to UUP candidate.True, but I'd imagine they get much more of their vote east of the Bann so overall a higher % of unionists?
