Irresponsible to blame cows for climate change

EVERY article I now read remotely concerning climate change/climate emergency states that in order to achieve “net zero” meat and dairy consumption must fall.

Say it often enough, it becomes a truth.
As @delilah keeps reminding us, our leaders are kowtowing to the government line instead of challenging it robustly.

What a time to be alive

So perhaps we have to say our side more often. We need to pressurise our "leaders" to start telling more facts rather than giving in to the Multinational companies who want to control world food supplys.
The AHBD has started to do better , we can only hope the NFU & others take note.

In a nutshell.
Cows are destroying the planet. Cows are destroying the planet. Just like Bart on the blackboard. Over and over again.
Everyone hates Animal Rebellion, but you have to admire their absolute understanding of how to operate in the modern world. Try and find where AR acknowledge the environmental downside of a vegan diet, or where the Moonbat accepts the mass unemployment that would result from everyone popping a nutrition tablet.

And what do we do ? Squirm and splutter and basically agree with them. This has been building up a head of steam for years, we have had every opportunity to get our act together. Instead, look where we are:

• In 2017, total greenhouse gas emissions from the UK were 460 million tonnes (mt) of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent).
• Total emissions from UK agriculture amounted to 45.6mt/CO2e − around 10% of the UK’s total emissions.
• Cattle and sheep accounted for 26.2mt/ CO2e − 5.7% of the UK’s total emissions.
• Carbon sequestered in UK grasslands accounted for a net reduction of 9.2mt/ CO2e.
• Taking into account grassland sequestration, cattle and sheep account for 3.7% of UK emissions. Excluding grassland sequestration, cattle and sheep account for 5.7%.

Cows and sheep produce 5.7% of UK GHG emissions. Or 3.7% if you account for sequestration.
Who makes this crap up ? It is just numbers plucked out of thin air. Numbers that mean diddly squat to the general public - and don't say that it is an internal industry paper, that is the NFU website, aimed at the public.

Read the text beside those figures:
"We know cows are destroying the planet, we apologise, there are less of them than there were, and they aren't as bad as foreign cows, and we will change their diet to make them less destructive, bear with us, sorry again".

It's pathetic, it really is.

If we wanted to design the most environment friendly way to feed ourselves, we would come up with the cow. Nothing else has the ability to transform natures bounty into nutrient dense, tasty, human food. The cow is the only thing standing between us and climate breakdown. Save the planet: Eat beef, drink milk.

Hear the farming programme on r4 this morning ? Anyone Caz Graham spoke to - beef farmer, auctioneer - she asked them what they were going to do about cows destroying the planet. Why ? Because Animal Rebellion have done their job. Will anyone from NFU or AHDB be contacting Caz Graham to put her straight ? No. So it's up to you.

It would be interesting to compare how the equivalent American farming representatives (is there an American NFU?) present the information.

There's this from USA farm bureau federation, I don't think its a lot better. There seems to be a very neutral stance, I suppose it is too easy to appear to be defensive. I thought there might be a stronger message when they've got resources available like the video above.
