We’re past the October total rainfall average (79.4mm) at 80.2mm already, with 13 days to go.
But hopefully not heading towards last years 175.8mm, which set the trend for this years less than average harvest.
Most winter crops are in around here, which is just as well as most of the SE Borders is now at field capacity, with some significant flooding in some fields.

Autumn been the best spell of weather in 12 months in eastern Scotland.
My bit of Tayside 73mm August, 29mm, September & 40mm so far in October. 239mm last year from which autumn crops never recovered:cry:

Only 40mm in July but rained every other day. Harvest a lot easier south of the border than it was here. Mostly snatched at 18-19% between showers. Later boys got the best of the weather second half of September.

We're all drilled up but I know of folk that haven't put a seed in the ground yet not 10 miles west of us .

Many thanks for your replies. Here on very thin Cotswolds brash never known it so wet this time of year👎
Fortunately I am now semi retired from farming in my own right, but I certainly feel sorry for all farmers trying to get autumn cereals in, horrendous.
When the land in the picture squelch’s under your feet you know it’s very wet👎👎

100% sown 18days ago, the odd wet patch in low points that has standing water on after 100mm of rain since we finished but all in all looking pretty good, all tsp on and all pre ems on, forecast for next couple of weeks looks half decent so hopefully any poor patches will catch up, put a few slug pellets on this afternoon on a thinner looking end of a field

Half the rain we have had in Lincs
Some south of us have had 3 times your rain

Enjoy the benefit while you can

I know, that’s why I thought it worth answering the OP’s question;)
The last 6 weeks has been the first normal/decent weather up here in 12 months so trying my best to enjoy it while cracking on with as much as possible:D
And rubbing salt is such pleasure? 😜

Ground is bearing up remarkably well to the cattle up here in the hills. Autumn's barley is keeping it's feet dry, and looking good

This warmer "wetter" climate change is currently suiting us better than many 👍

September and October have been our driest months of 24 here in NW Ireland 59mm in Septmber and 52mm so far this month. We normally get battered with everything coming across the Atlantic. I think most people are drilled up except for maybe after potatoes.

More stone in that field than on my farm lane! ;)

From a weather nerds point of view the last 12 months has been fascinating as many fronts/troughs/ areas of rain have tracked up the east of the UK from south to north instead of west to east with the arable east having more rain than the west. This will have a profound effect of agriculture if the change is permanent
