Please may I ask about pure Jersey breed versus Jersey Crossbreeds, (with Holstein Friesian etc) overall performance?
Any major differences? Thankyou.

Have both
Jerseys will be 0.5 or more up on solids
Xbreds up on Ave 2-3 litres up on milk

Yet to find the double whammy
What would your average yield be from the pure breds? I’m surprised how well mine milk. I’ve a few up around the 9k mark and heifers seem to be around 6500-7000kg first lactation with the odd exception and I’m finding calves aren’t too bad, here’s a Angus out of one of my jerseys at 31 days old

Lower overall average litreage but higher solids as we roll at about 6% BF and 4.4% protein

Calves out of jerseys are a challenge especially at this time of year when the spring boys are dumping their calves on to the market.
We are putting more back in to sexed jersey and Holstein now plus a bit of Wagyu but we really don’t have the will to have beef on the farm

Do you know the total milk solids per cow sold on average from each breed? Be an interesting figure from the same farm as I assume they’re fed the same?

I have a crossbred herd. In ireland, grazing feeding 1 ton of meal. My 3 year average is 6k litres @540kg of milk solids.
9% would be my average solids. Im not sure i could get closer to 10% solids but i will try.

I would have to ask the one who knows but I can confirm they are all on the same diet.
What I will say, you need to get the Xbreds back in calf handy or they are likely to get plump.
We also bought some Hairy Beasts recently off a springer so I am watching them with interest. They are surprisingly quiet and settled in well
