Lamb boxes

Just wondering those who are selling their lamb butchered and vac packed. How much do you charge for a full lamb box? Also what do you charge on smaller orders? Cheers

Our abattoir has gone up to £38 for a kill and cut now. All vac packed and boxed. Last year I was £90/half or £170 for a whole lamb. But this year with lambs being expensive and the abattoir charging more I've been charging £100/half and £200 for a whole lamb no discount for buying a whole one.

This is our second year doing them,
Last year charged £95 for half vac packed and collected, barely covered the cost
This year £130 for half selling similar numbers to last year.
Only one has queried the price rise.
My workings are, can get £140 -150 sold deadweight with no hassle
Abattoir is 60 miles away they charge £45 to kill cut and pack.
Collected following week so another half day and 120 miles round trip.
Hanging around waiting for customers, dealing with questions all takes time.

Unless your doing a good number its not worth the bother. Around here very few would buy a whole lamb. Consider the margins taking into account time, overheads, fuel, collecting, refrigeration, freezing, labels, phone calls, banking etc Its not the price its the margins and if your doing all of this for less than £50 profit each then its not a worthy. We took lambs to kill last week with no further hassle. Selling meat was one huge awful investment that became a massive hole.

Another problem are those with a few hobby sheep, someone I hire a tup to was only charging £70 for half lamb and they weren't small, after an educational chat they went up to £90 . Still not enough if it's your business
