Lamb with broken leg high up almost in shoulder, how to strap?

So in the aftermath if these events one has to find some learnings to improve. I must state these were not my sheep and i did not transport them.

1. Farmer brought several loads of sheep in truck with holes in floor allowing for legs to be caught and broken.
2. No dog box fitted to truck, dog was left in back with sheep, hence the smothering and broken legs as well.
3. Things dont get better with sheep inless acted upon immediately in mosy cases. Jad scotty been dosed with antibiotics straight away as he sustained a flesh wound by dirty sheep and strapped he would have survived.
4. Challenge vets, knowing what i know now, xray shpuld have been done when lamb was resuced and becuase scar was visible, antibiotics administered immediately, and proper ones targeted at bone infections which are available.
5. I will never buy lambs and ewes in as the chances of lambs not getting crushed is low, unless drafted off, them mis mothering occurs.

I have leased my mew farm out for 2 years much to mist peoples dismay.

The farm needs major infrastructure put in place to make workable to a level i would say is expected from myself and the consumers. So i will put this all in place and when i take over i will hit the ground running.

This will allow for any animals that fall ill to be dealt with immediately lowering vet bills in the long run and inceasing profitability.

Leo and henry were well this morning and have the whole 40 acres to themselves today, see what mischief they get in when i am there tonight.

Henry has sore foot, they been in paddock 2 days, i have treated for scald but couldnt see any, i washed it and used torch to have a good look to make sure not inside hoof, they back in machinery shed abd on yard duties till further notice.

Nail, head.
I know virtually nothing about sheep, but I know an animal with a broken leg is a welfare issue, unless it can properly be treated. I'd expect the cost of proper treatment to vastly outweigh the economic value of the animal. (In my view, something lashed up with a stubby holder probably isn't a proper treatment, but I don't know anything about sheep, so maybe it is?)
If the animal is killed humanely, there is no longer a welfare issue. But there could have been some lamb chops, if you'd not jabbed it.
If he doesnt improve he will be put down, but he needs a chance, my others had a couple months of discomfort now have the rest of there lives enjoying life, and they are happy. All it took was effort amd some money. They csm from my stores i bought which i near on doubled my money in 5 months, so the cost to save 2 is miniscule, plus on my new farm i will not being mowing lawns all the time, thats the boys job!!
I have ewes and lambs on agistment, dont ask been not fun...

Anyway a lamb must have been trotted on in the truck, broke front rh leg high up almost in shoulder.

I go around them even though its not my job, and he's been getting worse, limping and looked to be sore in back legs as well, so i grabbed him and put him with my 2 pets, because he was always sitting i assumed the mom abandoned him. Weather been wet and ordinary.

Anyway i got vet out tonite who ive had before and i would class as ordinary. Said put lamb down before i even explained any of the relevant info.

The lamb is healthy and carrying good weight, can get around no worries when needed. Eats fine.

I have just given 2nd shot of penecilian, has improved in back legs ten fold, i suspect just cold and in pain. The rh front oeg up near shoulder has had a wound thats healed and id say got infected, still swollen and hard and has a small sack of fluid,

Only reason vet said put down as hard to brace up there, she also said my other 2 pets who i treated wouldnt live or amount to anything, they are both thriving.

I have strapped leg with bandage as high up as i can go but needs something better.

Any suggestions? I see all manner of deformed legs etc strapped with great success, so if i can calm infection down and swelling and brace this it may have a shot of healing,

I was thinking a foam long beer bottle holder to slide up there and strap.

Hes in the pets hut and has started nibbling grain, so that will cut down some miles he needs to travel for food.

Cheers, Ant...
How did the lamb do? I am currently dealing with a sheep that broke her leg when she stepped in a mole hole....I am trying to save her right now....I will not euthanize her unless there is absolutely nothing I can do to save her...

Hi ms kitty, unfortunately scotty had to be put down, due to infection in break when unloaded from truck.

Where is it broken? Did it break skin open?

My Henry was a sick lamb who broke front leg low down, healed no worries, hes still alive and booming, i have 4 pets sheep next to my house.

If not infected, and not crushed so theres floating bone up in a shoulder joint etc, they will heal fine.

Cheers, Ant.

I have a 2 day old lamb that has a high break on a front leg, he is nursing off the ewe and doesn't seem in a lot of pain. But the swelling is pretty severe right now and not sure if I can splint it with it swollen.

Yes you can, I would go with a fair amount of cotton wool and vetwrap etc rather than material with no give, the swelling is likely to reduce and then it could rub
