Limiting Molasses intake by in-lamb ewes?

Is it possible?

I am using molasses for the ewes with 2/3 lambs inside, for the first time as the forage has been pretty middling late on. However, in spite of the urea in it supposed to make them self regulate intake, the Ladies do not seem to have read the manual.... 0.2l/day.....? Hah, they laugh at that!!

I moved them a week ago onto much better grazing that is now available, up until they return for lambing on 25 March. I tried just a molassed bucket, but they turned their noses up at even a Chrsytalix tub to my surprise... :( So, the ball feeder went back in to be surrounded inside 5 mins.

HTH can I limit them a bit? Dilute it with water??

When we sold liquid feed we found that with ball feeders sheep would push the ball down and drank to their hearts content.

Roller feeder far better.
Sounds VERY plausible indeed Kevin... What I want to know, is why they do not self regulate??? 🤷‍♂️

I do have a wheel feeder, but only 2 station, and tbh, I find the sheep do not like it much at all! So it would reduce consumption, for sure ;)

They take a fair bit more than the 0.2l a day that the label claims though!

I've always found intakes depend on what else they're eating, particularly it's protein level.
I've never fed one as high in protein as that EDF product, but always found intakes almost negligible when fed alongside turnips or grass (plenty of protein already), but higher if fed alongside hay, straw or rough, feggy grass.
